There's much more to the entire book, but it's been a while since I've read and had classes on it. Point is, Kojima barely fucking got it, I was cringing after Miller said something to the account of "one of the kids, Ralph, was crushed under a pipe, must've been Liquid, bleh bleh".

I get it though, if Kojima tried making any sort of a deeper reference we'd be left with something like the "doublethink" from the truth tapes. What a load of shit that was, too.

Yeah, this is kinda a running problem with writing characters that have superior intelligence as an informed attribute. The writer has to be a lot smarter than his audience for it to be convincing. When that is actually the case (Arthur Conan Doyle, for instance), it can work. More often than not, though, you get some Mr. Fantastic grade bullshittery, because most people (and by extension, most writers) are not geniuses.

The 180IQ problem could've been avoided a little bit by giving child Liquid an actual character, have him actually talking and communicating like a non-mentally challenged human being, maybe giving him an arc that would fit into the canon. Or any arc at all for that matter. It's also jarring in MGS1 that Liquid, being as smart and successful as he is, fails to understand basic biology or never bothers to check up on his genes. But the magnitudes of the problem are a little bit different here.
