The Force Unleashed. Too many bugs made that shit unplayable for me. Still played the sequel anyway - MUCH more polished.

Oblivion
Witcher 2
Pokémon OR

Just to name a few in this year

Guilty Gear Xrd Sign. A bit hard to get into seriously. SF5 was more accessible.

I still want to get Rev2 tho, I don't know why.

Das 2,i just came to the king and just closed and never opened it again, idk why
>>
Witcher 3 for shit combat
SFV because asa netcode and probably my least favorite SF entry yet
>>
thief (2014), i don't remember why, but i didn't like it
>>
>>381554872
FF XIV
Don't get me wrong I didn't hate it or anything, I'm just getting way too old to sit through grinding.
It seemed like a good game other than the grind though.

Destiny, when I say the trailer for Rise of Iron I just lost interest and stopped playing

Dragon's Dogma - I don't know why but I just couldn't really get into it

Endless space 2. You played one match, you played them all.

Toukiden 2. I don't really know why.
>>
Shadow of the Colossus. Shit controls and the fact that the boss fight gimmick wore itself out too early made it an easy drop.

I was told this was going to revitalize the cRPG genre. Obsidian managed to, thankfully. divinity Priginal Sin is the second worst RPG I've ever played.
>Shit story
Written the same way blizzard writes Diablo storylines
>Shit dialogue
>Shit characters
Cat man.
>Combat isn't special unless you've never touched a spiderweb software game

I fucking hated Divinity. Everything it did it did wrong, from its stupid blizzard art style to the stilted automaton conversations between the main characters.
>>
>>381554872
Runescape

Several reasons:
1) All the shit I really wanted to do involved having to pay, and when I took a free trial there was a whole bunch of unnecessary crap I didnt want to deal with on the other side of that stupid fence

2) If you wear armor it effectively gives you more hit points. But if you take it off you lose those hit points - and it doesnt give them back if you put it back on. How pathetic, armor doesnt negate damage it just gives you HP.
>>
>>381555084
The sequel was complete shit.
>>
>>381554872
NIer: Automata. Quests felt really boring, art and story didn't grab me and combat felt way shittier than other P* games like Bayonetta.

Pretty boring combat with bullet sponge enemies. The story didn't engage me nearly enough to make slogging through it seem worthwhile.
>>
>>381555521
That's because the combat was objectively shittier than other P* games. What a fucking disappointment.
>>
Deadly Tower of Monsters. Got it in a bundle. The atmosphere was nice, and I liked the narration, but the gameplay was going and it's just a collectathon.
>>
The Witcher 2.
After I had to traverse the same shitty battlefield in the same shitty manner for the fourth time or so, I was already considering it.
But I thought that Vergen might be the end since the game felt so long already so I wanted to finish it.
And then they introduced a totally new area and I said fuck it.
Story didn't hold my interest, gameplay was pretty shallow, most of the characters felt bland or one-note.

They kept adding new (((dlc))) weapons which were stronger than all previous weapons which made serious play without constant payment impossible

Fuck this game.
>>

>Witcher 3
Stopped playing because of lack of time irl, when I came back I didn't remembered anything and wasn't in the mood of restarting. The fact that my pc couldn't run it in more than 30fps was also a problem. But now that I can I still don't feel like playing it. I stopped around 40h after getting to the viking islands. It's the only game in the series I haven't finished.

>Ni no Kuni
Couldn't be bothered to play a 80+h rpg that I felt like was just 'okay'. Dropped around 10h.

>Dota 2
Shit community, wasting my time. Actaully I dropped every multiplayer game now. They are all just waste of time and bring nothing new, at least sp games have stories and different mechanics that make playing them be some new experience instead of rehashed fun.

The factions play differently but not different enough in my opinion. A shared tech tree I also found bullshit considering the different factions are different life forms (some from another dimention).

Its a very cinematic game and its pretty solidly made, with the occasional glitch and crash. If you liked ES1 you will probably like ES2 just as much. Also it seems that the dev's add new content occasionally with the updates.

Everything just felt too "samey" after awhile for me.

X-PIRATEZ

The author (Dioxine) turns out explained that the game is basically like some kind of Meagrim's experiment to test how proficient gamers are.

So with every successive version tweak they actually go back and make the starting parts of the game harder and remove benefits from things making the game pretty much unplayable - or rather there is 1 specific way that you're supposed to play it otherwise you pretty much just suck and dont know why.

> pretty much Trolling the entire playerbase as time goes on

Ive still got it but the last version I upgraded to was 99.F4 and thats where its going to stay. I dont care if new ships or maps were added later on.

And I have a mod tweak I load over it to counteract some of the lame shit the author started doing to strangle the game.
>>
>>381556085

I know where you're coming from, I wouldn't even need that NPC cause hes all about arcane magic and im pyro.

It just angers me that I fucked up myself and it pretty much spoils all the fun for me if I don't fix that shit first.
>>
>>381554872
Call of Cthulhu about halfway through because it dropped off hard after the first hour and didn't get any better
Dragon's Dogma at the start since it has a lot of glitches on my machine and I couldn't be bothered to fix them
LA Noire ^
MGS after grey fox since I just wasn't into it, the gameplay is very waiting heavy and the amount of cutscenes made me feel like I was putting down the controller constantly
>>
Witcher 3, found and chose tris over the other girl, got to skilledge and the story was acting as if i was with yen meaning I had cheated on her this entire time, and would have to let her know about tris, completely killed immersion game never really made a huge point that you and yen were for real for real.

A huge amount of my games i drop middway when i get a new one, or start up another old one, I play them halfway through, when i return I delete the save and start again, i hardly win many games, just play the first half over and over.

Jagged Alliance 2: Back in Action.

Game is fucking unplayable. You can upgrade your mercs to have high dexterity and marksmanship and then give them the best tactical gear and long range weapons, set them laying prone, and even though it says "excellent chance to hit" you still miss like 99% of the shots you take.

Meanwhile, some enemy in a t-shirt with an old weak .32 revolver 40 yards away standing upright can make perfect shots on your heavily armed and trained mercs and nearly wipe them out.

Plus every 24 hours you have to deal with enemy patrols that just show up and retake your land, if you leave guys to fight them, they just zerg you with armor which makes them 1000X more deadly than the lethal t-shirt guys. Plus since you miss most of your shots, you spend most of your money on expensive ammo and tactical gear.

It's an unplayable mess of hit percentage calculation and the cover system only works in favor of enemies. I can lay my guys prone on a roof and enemies still make the shot through concrete to hit you with bullets that won't travel through concrete IRL, but if you use your .50cal Barret, the game tells you HURRR U CAN'T SHOOT THRUR DA CONCRETE XD

It's not even worth beating the story sucks eggs. I just liked the gameplay, that's why I continued to do the side-ops. But once I finished that I called it quits. Doesn't help that 35% of the games actual missions are glorified side-ops.

DOOM (2016)
I fell for the meme with everyone saying it was "old-school". Fuck that. I expected old-school, instead I got:
>QTEs up the ass
>generic enemies with no character and unmemorable sounds
>low ammo count
>forced to use a progression system if you want more ammo
>unskippable cutscenes
>forgettable electronic soundtrack instead of cheesy metal riffs and ambient horror music
The only "old-school" element was the lack of regenerating health and high weapon count. Last fucking time I ever listen to /v/ on new releases.

Dark Souls.

Was kind of an epiphany moment that affected my attitude towards games as a whole, just happened to be DS I was playing at the time. I used to be a massive fan of roguelikes and games that are designed to punish you. I was most of the way through DS when I basically realised that I wasn't having fun 90% of the time that I was playing it. That 10% elation wasn't worth the time and energy poured in, the stress and frustration, especially since there were no appreciable results other than a visual pat-on-the-back.

If you've got the drive and dedication to 'git gud' you're wasting it on videogames.
>>
>>381557763
Glory kills. The only reliable way to acquire health/ammo is to engage a quick QTE that pauses the action and renders you invincible until it plays out.
>>
>>381557710
metro 2033 as well, I tried one of the difficulties where it disables the hud but the developers couldn't be arsed to actually design the game with no hud. It feels like some shitty mod. And with the hud everytime you want to pickup an item it feels half of your screen with the item icon. First time a game had such a shit interface it made me quit.
>>
>>381557763
I think he's talking about the honor kills. They're very pace and immersion breaking, and the game is kind of balanced around them, so just turning them off or ignoring them doesn't really help.

And don't even get me started on the chainsaw that just turns the game into an interactive movie.

Horizon Zero Dawn.
I played a decent chunk of it, but the whole time I was looking forward to fighting the Thunderjaw (T-Rex thing from trailers, for those who didn't play it). It always looked so intimidating, like it was going to be a really tough fight. But it was so easy to kill, I was absolutely blown away. It was almost insulting. The only way that fight could be considered hard is if you deliberately run in like an idiot, trying to make the fight look as cinematic as possible. I fought carefully every time I took one on and never got touched.

The Guardians from BOTW were a similar deal for me, but I didn't drop the game over them. Block their laser three times and they're dead. Absolutely ridiculous. Even if you don't wanna do that, just get a strong weapon and charge one of the legs. As soon as you cut one off (usually takes just one hit with a good weapon), it'll stun the Guardian and reset the laser. Then you just run around chopping all the legs off, one by one. They looked so intimidating the whole time, but they're absolute push-overs.

Dark Souls

The hard parts are why I played but the grinding through the cookie cutter enemies and in between parts over and over again so I can get to the part I actually wanted to try at was so fucking boring I eventually just stopped bothering. I also didn't like the RPG elements, a lot of times bosses could be pushovers with a specific item or vice versa, in like Ghosts 'n Goblins if you died or were getting fucked up its because you got hit or didn't understand the enemy's movements well enough and needed more practice. With dark souls it was usually something along the lines of "If you got the shiny golden penis dripping with poz cum and shoved it up your ass before the fight then you could kill him in like three hits lmao" or "Obviously you needed to level up "penis docking" to level 58 so you can dodge the "nigger rapist attack" wow how can you not know this?"

FE Echos was the last game I dropped. Enemies conga lining to their deaths or otherwise acting like meatshields while archers and mages do all the work isn't very fun.
>>
The Tomb Raider reboot. Dialogue/plot up the arsehole, QTEs and shitty scripted sequences all over the place, boring """open""" world bits... Just a shitty action game about some random bimbo with the title of TOMB RAIDER for no reason other than gibs me muneh. Bah.

It's like they took the one TR thing that was shit (but nobody cared about in the grand scheme of things) and made it better while making everything else worse. I couldn't stomach it.

Witcher 3. Boring everything. Boring open world, boring sidequests, boring mainquest, boring story, boring dialogue scenes, boring combat gameplay, boring environments.

MGS5

Zero story and so boring it hurt.
>>
Gravity Rush Remaster. I see /v/ praising it so much all the time so I bought it. Majority of the combat time is spamming gravity kick. There is nothing to do and find in the world except more crystals making exploration boring. Story only starts to get interesting near the end. Its ugly and most powers are boring. Also the camera while flying in close spaces go crazy and its annoying.

Overall its just a really mediocre game.

DOOM (2016), Witcher 3, GTA V, Fallout 4, Tomb Raider (2013), Dark Souls, every game from Bioware ever, Divinity Original Sin, Sunless Sea, all Bioshock games and Prey, all Far Cry games, latest Hitman.

All are either horribly mediocre or outright terrible, some are nail in the coffin for entire franchises. That's just to name a few which i can remember from the last few years, there are many more.

Persona 5 around the 50 hr mark

I kept getting annoyed by how the game takes away control from you after a mission, to play a 1 hour long cut-scenes of multiple days, forcing you to go to bed. I think I beat both P3 and P4 by 50 hrs, but I knew I had at least 2 dungeons left in P5, I couldn't keep going it was just so poorly paced.

Fallout 4. I probably don't even need to explain that one.

Final Fantasy XV
>Every single sidequest was literally bottom of the barrel fetch-quest garbage from collecting frogs to picking green beans
>Combat would have been a lot better if the fucking plants/bushes/rocks/etc didn't obscure the camera when locked onto enemies
>Flying enemies were total bullshit because only Noctis and Prompto can hit them
>Magic was useless and poorly executed
>Game's story started off alright then gradually got worse as the game progressed
>OPEN WORLD GUYS C'MON

Also Dishonored. I liked the premise and all that, but i hated the gameplay because even by stealth game standards enemies could easily beat the shit out of you with only two or three hits and as far as i could tell trying to do the game non-lethally was a chore because if they spotted you there was no way to knock them out without using crossbow bolts thus forcing you to kill them. This might just be me being garbage, but still i dropped it
>>

Shattered Skies. I didn't know Sergey's rep before I bought. They killed it by destroying the FPS to like 10 FPS in towns.
>>
>>381567306
It's not a fear thing, it's that stumbling around in the dark while also looking out for whatever invincible monster (because these shitty games never have combat) while also trying to find where to go is tedious and agitating. Like having zero combat, it's a crutch for when a developer can't make a game genuinely frightening or interesting.
>>
>>381567220
Casino is good but the dungeon after it is far too long to really be enjoyable, and it's after that point that the game just doesn't know when to end.
>>

Witcher 3 is the only game i've ever dropped. Overrated muh mature game for mature gamers like me with the most horrible combat system ever.
>>
Fallout 3

I got to the Super Mini Mart or whatever in the beginning only to be shot at by some bum with a hunting rifle. When i eventually got the jump on him and beat him to death, i lost karma for killing him despite the bastard trying to kill me. Then the kid asked me to help kill some ants to save his family, and I got blown up by landmines disguised as donuts.

Granted this was years ago, and i later reignited my interest in the series by playing Fallout 2 and New Vegas but damn
>>
>>381567220
I also dropped ZoE2 after getting fed up with the train boss
>>
>>381567545
Considering that there are almost no horror games without combat except for Amnesia and it's clones, you are just fooling yourself that they are not scary, to not reveal that you shat your pants more than twice in a session. That's actually part of the appeal, being helpless which adds to the spooky factor. Games with weapons can never be scary, because no matter what happens you can fight back, hence why they revolve around cheap jump scares instead of truly frightening atmosphere, where you are pissing in your panties every time you need to look around the corner.
>>
>>381567842
>ZoE2 train boss

I don't remember the train boss, I almost quit ZoE2 during the escort missions, the one with Ken who can't move and the one where you have to fight with the Army.

That final boss though, made the whole game worth it.
>>
Witcher 3. Everything is so boring. That autist Geralt and his dialogue doesn't help. The card game was the most fun in the whole game.
>>
>>381567878
I'm not saying that the games as a whole aren't scary but they aren't as scary as games that are actually well designed like Silent Hill. Being helpless takes away agency, immersion, and fear. Instead of panicking and deciding what to do, to face the monster or run, you instantly know what to do. Flashlight batteries are not scary, it just makes it hard to see while you try to solve a puzzle or find where to go and it's tedious shit.
>there are almost no horror games without combat except for Amnesia and it's clones
wow you just handwaved nearly every modern horror game away because they are all fucking amnesia clones.

>>381568060
Basically shortly after you get to Mars, the UNSF and Ken warn you about a BAHRAM transport train carrying reinforcements/supplies. You need to blow it up before it reaches the destination. However you had to do it by starting from the back and blowing up each segment as you went.

Since the homing laser was basically the best thing you had at that point, you just had to keep spamming it. Each time a segment blew up, you had to accelerate forward to the next one. However just holding the right trigger wouldn't make you fast enough, so you had to mash it to take advantage of the sudden speed gain at the start of each boost.

It was just really tedious. The escort mission with Ken sucked because i had no idea where the fuck i was supposed to go. Though inadvertently almost roasting her to death did have the perk of her taking her top off in the following cutscene for some nice midriff action
>>

Dishonored 2
I got to the maze mansion thing. By the time I killed the target I realized I didn't understand anyone's motivation or what was even going on and I had basically zoned out the entire time playing it.

Bit Trip Runner
It's a god damn headache to go through even World 1. The music is almost non existent until you get to the near end of the level. For a rhythmic platformer it can drag out for too fucking long, Geometry Dash does a better job at it and the game is literally just squares and triangles.

Gr2 probably was on vita early on development. Too bad you couldnt enjoy R3 anon its the best one.

Skyward Sword

Surprised me honestly. I didn't HATE it, but considering I was even able to enjoy Twilight Princess I think it speaks volumes that SS couldn't hold my attention past the very fucking first Ghirahim fight. The controls were aggravating and needlessly stingy, the game took way to long to start and it didn't really give me a reason to want to keep going (At least TP had Midna's mystery as a source of interest)

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
The only other SMT games I played were 4 and 4:A and I loved them both, I liked Nocturne but fusion is fucking painful in it and it takes a lot of exploration to find where to go, but each step risks a random encounter. This combined with trying to save SP and HP until god knows when the next Terminal you can warp to is becomes painful.
