NieR lore is fun

The game had the EXACT same major problems as FFXV. You think the second half is where the real deal begins, but then it's only a short tunnel to the final fight, with the plot explained to you in datalogs. I was like, "the game has five main endings, I must have so much stuff left to do!" but then you get the D and E simply by replaying the final segment once more, and the "happy" end is some shallow, pasted on bullshit to pacify the angry players with zero effort.

Honestly, through route A, I was about to call this a perfect game and a guaranteed GOTY. Then I got ending E, looked back and realized 80% of the game time was spent replaying areas and quests with no substance. Even Drakengard 3 had more variety and attitude, though the gameplay in that sucked ass. What a disappointment.

I think maybe your expectations were off. I never expected Route C to be as long as Route A, simply because Routes A and B took me 30-40 hours to get through, with majority of the side content being done. Doesn't really work in his case, he used all of his budget and from the pitch of sales money he got off this he was able to deliver some dlc where he said he couldn't. Obviously he wasn't going to release story DLC, what was released was panned together in a rush date.
Square wasn't given the opportunity to ruin this game either, given they gave Taro full reign, hence why he says in interviews the suits weren't happy that he showcased his game with only 4 months to market, because they couldn't make sweeping changes that they wanted to.

I used FAR and played it with a 960GTX

Hit 60 fps at 900p, Now with a 1080GTX I hit 90 fps 1080p ultra. There's some drops when running in the overworld if you don't have a SSD though.

Why are the weapons in this game so aesthetic. Type 40 blade and sword are literally my weaponfus.

Many flaws feel like they're the result of budget and Taro tries to fix then with outside reading material.

Its a 7.5,/10 on average, but certain moments feel like they belong to a 12/10 game.

If I had to sum it up the bad vs good into a single statement, the game tries hard to make itself work.

Some feel the game is thus "try hard" and don't appreciate the effort.

I feel that they game tries really hard and thats effort I can appreciate, even if it doesnt hit every mark.

If you like End of Evangelion you're very likely to enjoy the game.

If you do, I have a bit of advice.

1. Play prologue on easy or normal and bump difficulty up after your first save opportunity. You can adjust difficulty at any time in settings.

2. Avoid spoilers! The game isn't too hard and it's way better experienced blind. If you have trouble, fishing is easy money and healing items are cheap as shit.
3. Sidequests actually give decent rewards and flesh out a lot of backstory. However if they require too much running around, wait until you get fast travel. Its not that far into the game.
4. Music is easily GotY for me. Space out with it sometimes.

Hard is actually too hard - you take way too much damage in this even with 75% of your memory dedicated to defensive chips. If you encounter big mobs higher than your level you will get oneshot.

On the other hand Normal is too easy, you barely take a third of the damage you take in hard. Pop in a bunch of offensive healing chips and button mash your way to victory. Auto-use item chip will save you 99% of the time should you actually fall low, which isn't the case in Hard where you die from 1 blow from big guys at 50%
