I completely agree that using shields makes the game way easier. You can always swap to 2h or roll when you still have a shield available, but going without means you're going to take full damage when you fuck up no matter what.

Still, I think the games are more fun when you try different builds, and letting yourself use a shield makes it not feel frustratingly difficult when your SL and equipment levels are low.

I still don't understand why they decided to bring back a grass-like system, estus was way better. Grinding for healing items is not fun, and having so much healing that you trivialize the game isn't fun either. They could have made blood vials replenishable and lowered the max to like 7, would have improved the game a lot.

It's not like you need to aim for it, to have it occur. You evading + Gascoigne jumping around + Tons of clutter = stuck behind object fairly often. Why would you not use that opportunity to attack while he circles around something? It's common sense.

There are plenty of examples of cheesing bosses (esp in the earlier souls games) but using the tombstones to control father gascoigne isn't one of them. That's just how the encounter was designed.
