How do I know which personas I should be creating?

Has useful skills and weakness that can't be exploited by dungeon enemies and bosses

My rule of thumb:

Four personas that use agi, bufu, garu, and zio which also include maragi, mabufu, etc.
Persona with Hama
Persona with Mudo
Physical attack persona
The rest of your slots you fill up with personas that have any party buffs/enemy debuffs that you need. Never ever fight a boss without Rakunda. I never bothered with single target buffs.

Check with your social links and see which one's the highest. Find something to fuse that gives you a lot of XP from a social link. Don't bother fusing a persona without having any bonus XP from a social link. Don't get too attached to your personas, always look to replace them with personas that have upgraded versions of skills.

but it's always a good idea to have one have the elemental attack you need
if you're just in the beginning you have Yosuke (Garu), Chie (Bufu), and will get Yukiko eventually (Agi)
So you just need to keep someone with Zio

until then just play it by ear and make sure you to always have a good variety.
someone with buffs and debuffs doesn't hurt either

Never played P4. Should I play vanilla or golden?

If you have a Vita/PSTV then Golden, but if you don't then vanilla is still perfectly fine to play.

I use guides desu, cause even the most useless persona skill can make or break certain fights.

Golden is better but there's no hardcore changes from vanilla. just a few extra scenes and Marie as a side character.
