It's the best stealth game period. Only nu-/v/ will disagree with this while feliatiating the likes of Kojima. Bank and Hokkaido are the epitome of ludo.
>>
>>381522330
chaos theory reaches the highest peaks, but no other game in the series has the consistency of the original. i thought every level was exciting in the first game, but in chaos theory there was the NYC apartments and Displace office building that were relatively weak.

Not only is the game perfection, but also the soundtrack.

They got a literal who to do Blacklist's OST, but that game wouldn't have suited Amon Tobin as it was fuck all stealth and more action-stealth which is a pretty different thing.
>>

Amon Tobin is fucking god tier. I get chills whenever Ruthless (Reprise) comes on.

I'm a huge Splinter Cell Fan (I've even read a few books... they are actually not even that bad written, solid espionage thriller), but my personal favorite and I know that this is kinda uncommon, is Conviction.
I don't know if it felt in a time where I had enough from stealth, but I liked the style from that game and how the shooting felt. For me it's one of the best 3rd Person Shooter ever created, I've played it more than any other SC game to date.

>>

They are so boring on replays.
>>
I loved the original after I borrowed it from a friend on xbox years ago, but I remember not liking pandora tomorrow too much. I was thinking about giving it a second chance and using it to warm up before I finally try chaos theory since I just realized it's on steam, but apparently steam has every splinter cell game except PT. Can anybody tell me why?

>>
>>381526449
I like the Soundtrack of the second SC game more, they had Lalo Schifrin who also made one of the best movie osts of all time (namely Dirty Harry and Bullit).

>>
>>381522330

>>
>>381533507
Blacklist is so unfun to replay. The gameplay just isn't fun. I honestly don't like how easy it is to mow down guards. I don't like the regenerating health and the gameplay being being designed around quietly killing everyone you meet (this is how you're meant to play it, the other "styles" are afterthoughts). I don't like how loose Sam's movement is and how easy it is to take an extra step into a guard. I don't like how the extreme proximity encounters of the previous games are removed because guards autodetect you from exactly 12m away when you're in darkness. I don't like the guard type that will jam your night vision googles (what?) and not your drone. I don't like how annoying all the characters are. It's weird how easily I can come back to Chaos Theory, while Blacklist just bores me.
>>
>>381535584
Pandora Tomorrow. You infiltrate it to kidnap that Sadono guy.
>>
>>381535646
>don't like how loose Sam's movement is
sam feels like a superhero in conviction and blacklist. he's so slinky and good at killing everything very quickly

>>381533802

>>
>>381533507
>impossible to zero stat blacklist
>best
>>
>>381535839
He actually moves like he has no regard for people around him. It's much harder to tip toe around guards in those action orientated games because of how loose Sam's movement is. The adaptive parkor system has fucked me over many times, as well. I would be sprinting to cover, only for Sam to spectacularly leap over it and get shot to death. To hell with the janky, movement inhibiting cover system in Blacklist, too. TLOU and TPP's organic cover systems are so much better. You just press up against a wall and your character ducks behind it naturally, while also aiming over the cover if you need to shoot. You can back off the cover in an instant if you need to quickly reposition. In Blacklist, you need to engage and disengage with cover. It gets you killed when an armored guard is approaching you, of if a grenade lands nearby.

Speaking of the armored guards, they're just as bad as the goggle jamming guards. Guards can wear armor. They do so in the old games. But it shouldn't make them fucking terminators that don't flinch and can repel any CQC like the armored guards in Blacklist.
>>
>>381522330
Best levels in terms of open-endedness, but I still prefer Pandora Tomorrow.
Wish Ubi re-released it on PC. DG voodoo fixes the shadows.
>>
The only splinter cell I ever played was chaos theory on GC.

Probably should give these another go.
>>
>>381536768
at least play the first one as well
>>
>>381536818
Might as well. The main problem with the GC was that the load times were horrible, and the controls (unsurprisingly) didn't quite fit on that controller.

It also ate up like 70 memory card blocks, what the fuck.

Nope. Conviction was the best. Stealth is for wannabe-hardcore faggots.
>>
>>381536913
First one is still good. Second one (PT) is the hardest in the series and requires real patience to beat (thank the lord for quick saves). If you replay Chaos Theory on PC, PS3 or 360, it will probably feel a lot better than you remember. if you can get Xbox or PS2 version of Double Agent, you've got an expansion for Chaos Theory. Avoid the PS360 version at all costs. Goddam that game was terrible.
>>
>>381536524
sometimes i like adaptive cover, and sometimes i like sticky cover. but i guess that's one of those design choices you can't exactly have as a simple toggle in the options

I have a question, what makes the new gen version of Double Agent bad?
>>
>>381537876
Ubisoft Shanghai made it.
>they put based A-team Montreal on the dying gen release of the game
>>
>>381537743
You would be missiong out on PT. But you may not like it, either. I ditched it for 2 years after 30 minutes with it. I just couldn't stand how much harder it was. I only recently came to like it after I retried it and played it like I was trying to be a ghost.
>>
>>381537876
Regen health, light detection replaced with a binary system, no more noise-masking, mostly daytime levels that are unfun and filled with set pieces, garbage UI (vague action icons), mission rating system is completely fucked and made getting 100% impossible
>>
>>381523120
Nigga the NYC level is godlike

There's a lot of things wrong with the first splinter cell too; too fucking linear, too many forced action scenes, wonky animations, too reliant on shooting lights out as a mechanic...
>>
>>381534531
PT is a pain to run on modern hardware
>>
>>381537876
No light meter. It's very hard to see if you are visible or not without an on screen prompt that says so.

Also no sound meter. This is much worse, since Sam DOES make different amounts of sound on different surfaces. You don't get informed of this this and sometimes you'll have guards turning around for apparently no reason, even though you are moving as slow as you always were.

The fps performance in general is shit.

There's practically no reason to ever use gadgets.

It's very, very short compared to PS2 version, which has more missions that are also all longer than next gen version's missions.

The story is muddled and skips over a lot of things that the PS2 version doesn't.

The trust system is a joke compared to PS2 version, where it's a single scale you need to balance.

The JBA headquarters missions are crap. You have to wait out a timer for the missions to finish, and you can't knock out anyone. In PS2 version, the JBA missions are finished when you do your objectives, like any other mission. You also get to use all your gadgets and knock people out, as well as interrogate plot central characters.

>>381538846
The new gen version. It honestly makes no sense because it really does feel like they were going off the old gen version in the later games. Guards in Conviction reference you being in locations that you only visit in the old gen version of Double Agent.

>>

>>
>>381539019
The best way is to play the game is on its native systems. If you don't have a PS2 or Xbox to play Double Agent on, you must emulate the PS2 version. Xbox version is the better of the two old versions (except for the two PS2 bonus missions), but Xbox emulation never happened. Maybe when backwards compatibility comes to Xbone, but I'm sure as shit not getting one just for that.

For the longest time, I didn't believe that you could cross the roof without the guards being automatically alerted and coming to check things out. It turns out you can actually sneak across the roof by not touching the metal, not moving near the ceiling windows when the street sign is on, shimmying across the street sign, and timing your landing with the noise of an airliner flying over the building.

i wish they'd retcon this piece of shit, it should have been like this: Sam Fisher retires after CT, becomes a consultant at Third Echelon and instructs field agents alongside Lambert; instead because of ubishit's cowardice to change the main character, we now have a Benjamin Button like terminator (as in no sense of humor like the old Sam, is a killing machine, can be replaced with a talking coffee maker that shoots lasers etc) that had his daughter die and come back from the dead for some convoluted reason while murdering his boss for another bullshit reason (he also has anger issues and likes torturing hostiles or redecorating rooms with their faces, because that's what kiddies think is cool)
>>
Lambert I...
>>
I don't know how Chaos Theory could be topped, even though I played the "last gen" version of Double Agent which I thought was superb, it didn't have the staying power that CT had.

Honestly, CT is the high point of the series in almost every aspect.

Great writing, great levels, fantastic visuals at the time and they built upon Pandora Tomorrow's already great multiplayer.

I just really love this game and I wish I experience the multiplayer in it's heyday again.
>>
>>381543427
The old gen version of events is acceptable.

>Sam's daughter dies while he's on a mission
>His life is destroyed
>With nothing to lose, he takes on the most dangerous assignment of his career
>Infiltrates the JBA
>Meanwhile, a guy called Assistant Director Williams takes over Third Echelon and starts breathing on Lambert's neck
>Sam gets close with Enrica. She's like a replacement for his daughter
>The time comes to takedown the JBA.
>He kills them all, except Enrica, whom Sam plans to rescue
>Director Williams sends in another splinter cell agent
>The agent kills Enrica
>Sam becomes enraged, kills the agent, cuts out his own tracking device and goes rouge

Whether Lambert is dead or not is up to the player, although it makes more sense for Sam to go rouge if Lambert dies.

Anyway, it will never go back to the slow, methodical stealth of the original games. Those games are simply too niche to make money anymore. If anything, it can only get worse, by going open world for example.

It's kinda disappointing to hear desu, Blacklist was definitely an improvement and with a few more things (interrogations, more secondary objectives, a bigger challenge and better lines for Sam) it could've been excellent.

Ironside has been seen at a Ubisoft studio, apparently. I wouldn't mind a new agent as long as Ironside is still Fisher, but I don't want it to be Briggs. I don't want to see any Blacklist characters again. They're all annoying as hell. Using Briggs would be BLM bullshit.
>>
>>381545229
yeah they'll soft-reboot it go full action for the Uncharted crowd and to replace Assassin's Creed/Watch_Dogs, because they're getting stale and ubishit needs a new series to milk using the same tired formula (generic action + open world shittery); they tried it with Ghost Recon, don't know if it was successful

Hell, it might. People liked GZ and TLOU a lot, and those games essentially have the elements of a more gritty stealth where tension is derived from open combat being undesirable, due to either limited resource expenditure or high enemy lethality. In Blacklist, there's no penaltiy at all to being spotted. You just mow down everyone with ample assistance from the game's combat geared mechanics and the AI resets after you move through a climbing section to the next arena, fully restocked with 400 rounds of ammo.

The motion capture thing was never right. They never needed to put Michael in a suit for any of the previous games. Having a character deliver lines without dramatically acting them out is piss easy too (they did it for every other game).

By the way, Sam's birthday is 03/25/1957 (age 60). Ironside's bday is 12/02/1950 (age 67).

I don't think so.

That might as well just mean "we're gonna add one or two major mechanics to change things up a bit".

This actually made sense. How many had a Xbox 360 in 2005? Way less than a PS2 for sure, so why not letting the best team making a game for the most profitable console?

Pandora Tomorrow had the best balance of enforcing stealth while giving you a little room to fuck up. Chaos Theory was Splinter Cell's "RE4" meaning it opened the pandora's box for it to become the action bullshit it is now.

>You have to carefully explore sprawling environements filled with baddies, if you so much as step into the wrong kind of floor and you're heard you're pretty much fucked.

Man I love thief.

Pandora Tomorrow can get pretty action heavy at times.
Arguably the combat worked better in PT due to the laser light on the pistol.
