It may be fine from a dps standpoint but it feels like complete ass to play right now. We lost everything that made it fun and got absolutely nothing in return, leaving us with an even simpler rotation than ever. Shoulder tackle traits feel completely irrelevant, especially the earth one. Why would you ever use a gap closer that just creates another gap? Riddle of Earth kinda replaces Tornado Kick (which was already pretty bad to begin with) in a lot of situations and Fire just makes you slower, which feels like crap because MNK is literally about going fast. But hey, at least we got a new shitty One Ilm Punch that's still complete ass and other niche shit like fkn Arm of the Destroyer is still untouched.

The only good thing is passive chakra gain and I guess that Brotherhood is decent enough. All in all it really feels like some half assed result of devs that had absolutely no idea where to go with MNK, which makes me sad. I miss ToD and Fracture.

I actually enjoy the changes for the most part, having access to abilities like inner beast, fell cleave, etc more often, unchained being cheaper, having a better cooldown than foresight. I'm still a little annoyed they took bloodbath away from us, especially when the warriors in the final class quest were using bloodbath, but it's not a huge loss. It does bother me though that they took away the change that gave us weapon damage from VIT and no longer allow us to equip new STR gear, but I guess they don't want tanks just being secondary dps. Other then that though I like the changes, some of our new abilities do leave a little bit to be desired though. I've hardly ever touched the charge attack, shake it off seems kind of niche, though it did help me in a dungeon earlier so maybe it's not all that bad.

There's some Paladins still around who are playing with the level 50 rotation and furiously refuse to use any Heavensward or Stormblood abilities. I remember having a guy like this in an A10S farm. He only ever used the rage of halone combo and the old off-gcd attacks from ARR and only ever in Shield Oath. His "trick" to not steal aggro during swaps? Do only a fast blade -> savage blade combo. Somehow this guy has the intelligence to figure out that this generates less aggro for tank swaps yet not the intelligence to figure out that royal authority and goring blade are better for this and also do a shit ton of damage.

ARR rotations were the best. Even the most straightforward one, BLM, had tons of room to improvise and optmize. Hell, finding a good BLM was harder than finding a good DRG.

No skill bloat, no job mechanics that needlessly punishes you for not knowing the encounter like the palm of your hand (except MNK obviously), a fair amount of utility for most jobs, including defensive ones, there was always something good to get out of every job.

I miss the Comfy Fantasy XIV.

Alright. So assuming you are main tank the combo I like to go with is as follows.
Be in shield oath

Shield lob, fast blade, riot blade, goring blade, requiescat, holy spirit, circle of scorn, holy spirit, spirits within, holy spirit, shelltron, holy spirit until out of mana and one more shelltron. Once out of mana

Fight or flight, use off gcds as needed, put goring blade up as needed, then jsut spam royal authority. You never need to use rage of halone unless its got some tank swap mechanics.

Really? Back in ARR I just rolled my face on Fire and press whatever proc that comes up. I'm consistently at the top with that

HW took everything to the opposite direction and made shit unnecessarily rigid though; with ARR you had some leeway to do mechanics and utility, in HW you leave your autistic rotation for a second and shit starts falling apart. Sometimes the class mechanics even directly clash with the game's design AND the class characteristics (Enochian and Ley Lines are prime examples; one REDUCES the gameplay to a literal one button spam while one fucks with your MP regeneration. You also have shit like Wanderer's Minuet that fucks with BL procs; and Gauss Barrel to a certain extent where you override it all day long with bullets)

SB returned to designs that are straightforward but feel like a natural evolution of the class's fundamentals instead of a bunch of unfun, untested bullshit (WHM and MCHs, calm down, you're some of the exceptions). It's Comfy Fantasy XIV-2

Spamming flash is a good opener for groups. I drop it two or three times and then focus one enemy. Usually DPS will attack whatever I am, but sometimes they just target whatever and you have to rotate between multiple enemies. If you make sure your attacks that give bonus enmity land on different enemies, it's pretty easy. Also switch to focusing something else when your main target gets low on health so you can preemptively get enmity before a DPS gets above you in the list. If you see an enemy's enmity icon leave red, use provoke and follow up with shield toss. Provoke gives equal enmity to the top person +1, so you need a follow-up attack to really solidify your enmity.
