The lip syncing doesn't really get better, but the plot sure does pick up after episode one (well, more like halfway into episode two).

That's okay. It's not for everyone, but I'd argue that it's the best game in its genre by a long shot.
While LiS doesn't have great lip syncing, it is better in literally every other visual category than Telltale's games/engine, which is basically their only competitor.
