Does a franchise have to eventually end? I was wondering what /v/ think of longrunning series and how they don't seem to end. Everytime a new game in an old franchise gets released, it's either "casualized" or ruined the franchise in terms of lore and story.
The biggest example I could think of is Metal Gear. Everytime Kojima said he'll stop making them, he makes another one, and the story gets worse each time. Imagine if it ended like this.
>Metal Gear
>Metal Gear 2
>Metal Gear Solid
>Metal Gear Solid 2
>Metal Gear Solid 3
I guarantee many here would claim it's one of the best series of all time and how it ended perfectly. He would've either worked on ZoE 3 or a new IP.
So what do you think, /v/? I know how many people say "that won't happen faggot, they'll milk it", but I feel like many series should be put at rest and developers need to start new IPs.
