Sup, /v/. Steam summer sale is under way and I'm looking to pick up a Total War title. Problem is I have no experience with the series and I have no idea which ones are good and which are shit.
Preferably, I would like something that's:
>melee-focused (not w/ guns)
>looks good (or looks good with mods)
>high quality gameplay
Any recommendations, /v/?

Warhammer is pretty nice for beginners, and all-round pretty good. If not, Shogun 2 or Attila is the go-to, the last one harder than the first

Difficulty isn't really a factor for me (as long as it's not trying to hold my hand 24/7). I would also prefer a european version. Is there mods for any of the games you mentioned that allow you play in europe?

Attila is set in Europe during the great migration, and has a early medieval DLC and a nice Medieval mod (Medieval Kingdoms Total War 1212AD) which is getting a campaign part soon

Thanks, Anon. I'll check it out.
>shogun 2 with vac
>fall of the samurai without vac
So does FotS have it or not since I assume it still uses Shogun 2 as a base. And how likely is vac to screw you over when it comes to modding the single play game? Or better, how exactly are the game files sorted and is the multiplayer portion isolated? Is it also an always on thing for any multiplay/coop, or is it an option? Because how do multiplayer mods work?
Why is this allowed? Why isn't the titling done properly. I'm literally shaking now from how triggered I am.
Attila for melee, Fall of the Samurai for guns.
Rome 2 is okay now, especially with all the mods, so if you really prefer that setting, go for that.
CA are largely incompetent and every one of their games has some kind of major flaw. Your favourite total war will no doubt be the one set in the period you are most interested in.

Interested in more recommendations. I kinda like the gunpowder periods but in medieval 2 you had to play really long before you got to that and the "world is round" event and the timurids.

Best Total War is Medieval 1.
