How do we save this genre?

No AAA MMO is going to have any thought put into it, no indie MMO will have enough resources to market their game or reach a stable population. The genre's dead, best we'll get is some Gamer-style porn Second Life like >>381495667 is on about
>>
>>381495462
By completly reworking the formula that makes a MMORPG what it has become, a disgusting way for companies to milk out the good dosh by selling cosmetics and pay-to-win sets.

That genre has become a synonym for easy money with little effort, that you either nolife to get to the top, or p2w.
>>
>>381495462
We don't
>>
>Vindictus hack&slash speed and fluidity
>Guild Wars class building
>Open world that's not retardedly large
>Include X amount of top players of each class to take balance decisions

I'd pay 30 monthly for sure just for this shit, is it that unrealistic and/or niche?
>>
>>381495462
You can't. It's too far gone.
>>
EVE online but in the elder scrolls universe
>>
stop making everything so fucking convenient
force people to have to talk to eachother again in order to advance in the game
>>
Take runescape
give it acceptable graphics and character customization
remove the GE
add a dungeon to most quests
dungeons arent instanced, youre encouraged to meet party members inside the dungeon and team up along the way
if the dungeon is somehow LITERALLY empty, then the diificulty will be balanced for a solo run
everything to do with combat is changed to be fun and take at least a hint of skill

Force people to socialize.

It doesn't even matter if it's something as clumsy as forcibly logging them out if they don't send someone a PST every five hours. MMOs live and die if they have a community. If your playerbase spends most of its time queuing up, it's going to be a dull fucking game.

Kill it.

Instead of focusing on end-gear grind and pixels, focus on immersion.

Let it die for a few good years so devs can have time to think of something fresh and wait for a renaissance. Possibly with some compatibility with VR if it becomes better.
>>
>>381495462

Make the most sjw trans friendly mmo with the endless customization.
>>
Can't be done. Companies are too stuck in the mentality of microtransactions for shitty low-effort content. The golden goose is dead.
>>
World of Warcraft 2, on a new engine.
Honestly only blizzard can save that genre
>>
Just let it die for at least 5 years and start from scratch. Also >>381497360
>>
>>381497091
So then Black Desert Online.
>>
Make it so the end game isn't a grind for just bigger numbers.

Make it so there isn't any more p2w, or paying for anything that aren't expansions at all.
>>
>>381495462
no holy trinity, skill based every class gets to have fun
no theme park world design
other players actually matter outside of helping you kill things faster
>>
>>381497360
Ive only played everquest but
>Create content that can't be beaten solo
>>
They have the RPG part down, but they forgot about the MMO part of it
work on building the community up instead of trying to squeeze the life out of what's left of it
>>
>>381495462
Zelda 64 level (at minimum) real time combat.
>>
>>381497906
This pretty much. Like, seriously these days there's no reason to group up outside of dungeons in most MMOs. FFXIV actively fucking hinders you trying to play with friends if you're doing the main story, even if you're on the same part of the story as your friends there's a lot of forced solo instanced bits you can't play together in at all.

You can't.
Gaming as a whole has shifted away from social interaction, and people don't have as much free-time to commit themselves to MMOs anymore.
Whereas MOBAs are a one-and-done experience where social interaction isn't necessary beyond that single match, so you can easily pick it up and put it down without getting shit all over for having a life.
>>
Fixed camera angle. Sick and tired of looking at everyone miles away in third person. Example heres wow with just this little trick. I think it can make games look more dynamic and epic in general.

I also think they over complicate a lot of things when they shouldnt. Especially most mmorpgs where you have to choose certain traits and this and that and do this exact ritation or youre doing it wrong follow these rules or youll be bad. Look at the more popilar games like skyrim and lol they dont have all that grap and offer a variety of ways to fight. I think thats the approach they should take. Give that sense of randomness and wonder to do whatever you want
>>
Don't pump your game full of premium member content
Have actual combat or atleast make it meaningful and strategical instead of just spamming spells and skills
>>
>>381497360
That would just make it into a chatroom where people deliberately shitpost at each other to stay online.
The game needs an underlying player-driven infrastructure in which all players will find themselves a part of whether they like it or not. EVE and SWG did this and the former thrives with a small but dedicated playerbase and the latter failed because the core game that came with the awesome player economy was shit.

Not Auction House garbage, not getting all the good shit from instanced Raids, but the production-consumption cycle of every day life.
Someone to gather the simplest materials to sell to a producer.
A producer to make tools and weapons to sell to workers and adventurers.
Workers to gather other materials that are beneficial to everyone.
Adventurers to have fun killing shit and collecting valuable items in dangerous areas.
Farming, mining, harvesting, logging, raising animals, creating weapons, armor, gear, vehicles and housing if not entire player-made cities.
The tools and gear to gradually and absolutely degrade until they need to be replaced by a merchant selling the same or better item.
The trafficking of resources to where they need to go, and storage to keep them safe.

A series of cycles that everyone will have some part in. The important part is that an individual player is not able to do absolutely everything on a single or even a handful of characters, and so they rely on the system that all the players keep running.
Then you pair that with a fun fucking game (the adventuring action part) and it will at least be a stable game with a large enough playerbase that will interact with one another.

Until then, fucking Minecraft has more appeal in establishing such systems and player interaction than all of these Themepark MMOs.

eve is nothing like black desert, but I do love both

I agree with the large world problem. Just look at wow and swtor horrible horrible game decisions. They created so much space and there arent enough players to fill them up. They think creating new enviorment is what people want but thats not the case ibelieve. Look at runescape its had the same ahitty cities for a very long fucking time and people are still love beimg there. You cant get in touch with new areas because in kess than a week youre out of their and theres no reason to go back.

My solution is to keep the world at a medium to large size..rarely add new space only if you need it. For content create new stories create new buildings create more npcs just add to what you already have. Make more questlines add more items that dont take away from original once so everything is alway balanced to some degree because then you start creating none rewarding content by adding stronger upgrades. Like wow dungeons that nobody gives a shit but the content itself is good just not rewarding
