You're looking for Brütal Legend. Its alright, doesn't take itself too seriously, good soundtrack. Pick of Destiny is unrelated, the game is a stand alone.

It wasn't exceptional at either of these things, but the gameplay didn't pull a full reversal.

I remember having tons of fun playing Brutal Legend, and then they started explaining the stage battles and I could feel the enjoyment draining out of me as the horrible truth bubbled to the surface. Fuck RTS.
