It had the best merc mode and was really well optimized for PC (not counting the usual shitty brightness settings). Worth about $15 on a steam sale and nothing else. My favorite RE games are RE3, CVX, RE4, and REvelations 2. You need equal amounts of spooky stuff and action in RE. RE5 would be good if they kept RE4's upgrade system and didn't use a fucking mission select screen in the story to ruin progression. Classicfags are underaged shits that don't realize that RE always was action heavy, especially by the endgame.

The recoil system was not well thought out since the first shot is always perfectly accurate so the optimal strategy is to re-aim after every shot. Nah, it's better than RE5. RE6 is definitely a clusterfuck but it's a clusterfuck with good controls and SOME good moments buried in the mess. RE5 is abject mediocrity from start to finish, more functionally refined design wise but Christ fucking almighty does it lack character. It's just a worse RE4 with co-op, that's it. RE6 has better still controls, cover mechanics, and co-op implementation even if it is a shit game otherwise.

You underestimate how awful RE games can get.

RE6 isn't the worst RE game, not by far, but it is a severely flawed game, and worse, yet, it's so close to being a really good game. The problem is that the game makes some really bad choices, some very basic choices. Too much QTE, badly written story, and not like in RE4 where it's dumb but endearing, bad as in this is not only crappy it's choppy and poorly presented, the game doesn't stop during cutscenes, just you, which leaves you open to be killed, the boss fights are really badly designed.

Not that anon but while he's overselling the notion a bit RE6 does have a nagging tendency to zoom in on an environmental aspect in cinematic fashion like it's the most important thing in the fucking world, but decides to do this in the middle of a fight. It's not all the time and it's not gamebreaking but it's obnoxious as all hell when it does happen.

If Resident Evil 6 was not an RE main series game would You honestly still say it's bad?

I felt that the mercenary mode in addition to predator, survival, and onslaught made the game very enjoyable. Some of my favorite moments have been playing predator mode or survival on Requiem for War.

After the first two play throughs was anyone still exited to play RE7? Or did everyone play it once or twice and hails it's a step in the right direction.

As is, yes. I do think that fixing RE6 entails stripping it of its RE heritage though, which is to say it needed to let go of the zombies, the inventory management and the slow, meandering parts because that's not what this game tries to excel at. RE6's problem is that it's a solid action title that's also forced at times to try and be a RE game so the latter gets in the way of the former succeeding. Some of the puzzles in Ada's campaign and the Rasklapanje parts are the only times RE6 came close to respectfully acknowledging the series' past. Had this thrown caution to the wind and just ignored RE as a whole it could've been a more focused, concise effort and flourished rightfully as a top shelf action title for it.

TL;DR - Yes, in the sense of it trying to be RE at all. It needed to not do that.

Played it 5 times because I was very inefficient at collecting the coins, but the last 3 playthroughs together took as long as my first one by itself. I definitely think it's a step back in the right direction. Certainly not a full-blown return to the glory of RE1/2 but a strong refinement of the horror leanings that the Revelations games were hinting at. Still got a ways to go but we're back on the right track at least.

It's better than 5.

I don't see how people get so hung up on this. Half of RE7's areas are basically streamlined classic RE, most of its bosses feel like they could easily translate into a classic RE, the lack of fixed camera angles was made up for with new tricks like turning a corner/opening a door to suddenly be met with an enemy, inventory management was back right down to the item boxes, and even the ammo crafting thing was a throwback to RE3. Sure, there were some issues like the low enemy variety and simple level design but I don't understand what it is about the first person viewpoint that causes people to dismiss the core design of the game as "not RE" when it's probably the most fundamentally RE game we've gotten in nearly 15 years. It legitimately baffles me.

I still can't believe that the RE2 remake wasn't announced at E3 this year... 2 years and not a single word from capcom since they announced it!
Not a big fan of VII or 0 but atleast they and the remake are still somewhat showing the series has huge promise in todays market.

Re6 was a cod fan boys wet dream.

Its tank controls and limited ammo that brought it to the dance are more interesting then sniping off and spinning back kicking "zombies" with nearly infinite ammo. Nothing is scarce and it really isn't Resident evil.
RE4 was great becaise it actually made a very fun game.
As someone who pre orderd 5 and 6 (RE fan since 98) i can't give my honest opinion and say they where dogshit outside of mercenary mode which isn't even that great!
