Yes, very much so. I played it again on my VC, and it's still fun as fuck.
it absolutely does, it's got great movement and level design, and the DS version is good but would be a lot better without analog control
while sunshine is good, it suffers from levels that don't feel varied and are overly reliant on FLUDD (which removes challenge), plus blue coins exist
galaxy 1 and 2 are both really solid overall

Astonishingly well compared to most other early 3D platformers of the time.
I'd say Banjo Kazooie is the only one to rival it.
