Worth play ?
>>
>>381489079
You may as well watch the cutscenes, there isnt much in the way of gameplay.
>>
gets pretty repetitive and boring, overrated to fuck
>>
Depends. If you want something different than usual and you don't mind something slow paced sure. It is a pretty unique experience due to the enviroment, with some great characters more the partners you have and those old ass vehicles are pretty great to use. And some lines will stick to your head.
But if you play, don't forget to "doubt" a lot when you don't have proof

>>381489293
Shooting is fine, but the game barely uses that except for later missions.
>>
>>381489293

I would go so far as to say some of the gameplay gets in the way of the story. Investigating crime scenes, great. Gunplay and fistfights, pretty good. Interrogating suspects? It's a fucking travesty.
>>
>>381489079
If you're someone who gets super-invested in a game's story, sure, go for it, there are some great characters and the different desks tend to have interesting plots to them. But a lot of the gameplay elements, like driving, shooting, brawling, etc, feel like under-developed copies from Grand Theft Auto.
>>
>>381489079
It's okay with some brief flashes of brilliance. The story kind of falls apart near the end though and the mocapped faces range from stunningly amazing to firmly in the uncanny valley.
>>
>>381489079

I thought it was shit but I paid $60 on release day. Extremely flawed and the ending just made it all seem pointless.
>>
>Questioning woman about her missing husband
>Says her husband just got a new pair of glasses
>Found pair of broken glasses at previous crime scene
>Doubt
>Immediately accuse her of murdering her husband

>>381489079
Doubt it
>>
>>381489079
If you can get a good deal on it yes. This game is a perfect example of interesting ideas not implemented well. I still enjoyed it. If you like narratives in games it's pretty good. Also seeing LA in that time period was interesting as some one who lives near LA
>>
>>381489079

It's worth a play. The lack of political correctness makes it a gem compared to modern games, especially the ad vice and arson desks.

My only problem is the black dahlia crap and the whole homicide desk is a time wasting circle jerk, especially the scavenger hunt. I get that they had to shoehorn the black dahlia murder because of the time period, but that shit is old and cliche, like every game set in London HAS to involve Jack the Ripper.

Every partner in the game is based as fuck. All in all fun, very politically incorrect, but suffers from pacing.
>>
>>381489079
Its a fun game if you want to be a detective of that era but it becomes quite repetitive if the setting doesn't completely pull you in
>>
>>381490085
I would agree with this. There is plenty of gameplay, but unfortunately it can be frustrating having to do things "the right way" or in other words, the way they want you to do it. Admittedly it's one of the rare times I've used a walkthrough for a first playthrough because of this. OP, you should probably at least keep one handy for the more bullshitty parts.
>>
I hate story based games with a passion but I liked this game for some reason, I think it's the setting.
>>
I enjoyed this game very much, maybe even more than RDR, i'd recommend this game hopefully they make a sequel.
>>
>>381492035

Trash! Just play it and accept your failure like I did.
>>
>all that sexy 40's aesthetic
>the american dream hadn't been destroyed by jews yet
>men actually dressed like men and women dressed like women
>california hadn't turned into commiefornia yet
>songs weren't all nigger noise for women to squat and jiggle their collagen to
>everything wasn't expensive as fuck
>you couldn't get thrown in prison for saying there are only two genders
>gender rolls were adhered to
>women wore those delicious silk stockings with the seam up the back
>even a working stiff could afford a decent house
>criminals were treated like criminals, even if they were minorities

It's a shame the boomer trash destroyed this country, the mid 40-s to early 60's were based as fuck.

POLICE WORK
>>
I remember when L.A. Noire came out and I hadn't abandoned GiantBomb yet. Brad still had both testicles intact and wasn't a chubby male feminist yet, but he was talking about the game and how "a friend" said it was unfair.

He claimed his "friend" was autistic and therefore was unable to read expressions and tones, so he fucked up like every interview and interrogation. Brad said he felt bad for the people like his "friend" who were autistic and wouldn't be able to experience the game like a normal person.

I think that's when I realized he might be a leftist weenie or somewhere on the autism spectrum.
>>
>>381492982
ERIOIOIRE can probably tank bullets like they're bee stings and he just killed two people with his bare hands. LAMAL stands no chance.
>>
>>381492982
I mean, LAMAL has the guns, but EEYORE is a big guy for me.

I have been playing it recently and its great. One of the comfiest games to play.
Only real complaint I have is that sometimes evidence descriptions are extremely misleading, and some evidences end up being useless even though they shouldnt be.

Also has one of the best title songs

How does Mafia II compare?
>>
>>381494623

This annoyed the crap out of me too, I just chalked it up to there being some kind of breakdown in communications with the writing staff and scenario programmers. I also noticed that too often things items and statements that could have been used to tie somebody to a lie or crime were the wrong options.
>>
>>381489079
Definitely. The complete edition is 8 bucks currently on Steam and it's easily worth that. As others in this thread have mentioned this game was made before SJWs were a thing so it's a refreshing throwback back to when AAA games weren't politically correct.
>>
>>381494787

Boring as fuck, the only thing worth doing in Mafia 2 is collecting vintage porn.
>>
This and Bioshock Infinite are 1a and 1b in my "most disappointed I've ever been for a video game" game.
>>
>>381492982
ROCKSTAR GAMAG RATSKCOR did a fantastic job with development on LAMAL - it's objectively better.
>>
>>381494969
Mafia 2 has way more attention to detail. Neither games have shit to do after the story missions.
>>
>>381492982
Lamal sounds like he'll call his cousin Jamal and they'll shoot your shit up.
>>
>>381495091

>more attention to detail

How?
>>
>>381492876
>using sexy to describe something other than women

whats it like being 14 and reddit
>>
>>381494184
Nothing, this game has no replay value either since you would already know what happened and what to look for.
>>
>>381494874
>too often things items and statements that could have been used to tie somebody to a lie or crime were the wrong options.

Exactly. I thought it was just me being dumb or not paying attention but it happens way too much.
Its like they wanted to let the player have a shit ton of evidences just to have you fail more, which is kinda unfair.
Though I'm used to that seeing as Ace Attorney did the same shit.
>>
>>381492982
Eri caused the death of TWO guys. Even then, the police could barely fathom how brutally murdered those two guys were.

Lamal is a smooth, charismatic man. He's a good dual wielder, but he has his twin wives to worry about.
>>
>>381495357

Look out, boys, he's still triggered.

Some cases are rushed as fuck to the conclusion and some have major plot holes and insult your intelligence .
Add to that repetitive gameplay and dead ass city with nothing to do, that you will forced to traverse and you can answer the question for yourself easily

>can open windows in houses
>this actually effects how much street noise you hear
>light switches, sinks, and toilets work
>can repair and gas up your car
>>
>>381494184
Those cop missions you get on police cars or the dlc stuff if you haven't done those

>>381494402
I got that during story. I was always changing cars when I saw a new one. And the game would spawn new cars if you got to the main menu to that selection of cars, leave and load save and that new car would appear automatically.
>>
>>381496131
embarassing
>>
>>381496380

I'll give you the ability to gas up cars, otherwise noise doesn't really come into play. I've never found myself thinking "damn, it'd be easier to concentrate if that window were closed."
>>
>>381496497
attention to detail =/= useful
>>
>>381496076
You aren't forced to drive, Hold triangle(and whatever button is on pc or xbox to enter the car) and ask your partner to drive to a location from the notebook. Then you can skip or let your partner drive.

Go cry about drumpf, shadilay, racist pepe's or /pol/ boogeymen in another thread or play on a carpeted safe space for a few minutes.
>>
>>381496619
you are right
its been a while since I played the game, but I remember having to drive a few times, I think tailing someone or searching for a car, and it was just a chore.
worst driving experience imo
>>
>>381496743
It is not. /pol/ users are really stupid
>>
It becomes a little convoluted by the end in its story, but I remember loving the game since it was something fresh. And it unironically makes me want to become a detective someday.
>>
>>381496929

Every drive sequence was a pain in the ass, especially chases

>jump in car, floor it
>have to go through roller coaster of scripted events
>get close enough to enemy vehicle and PIT maneuver it
>you end up spinning out instead

That or every time you got closer, they'd hit the nos because you haven't reached the "crash" segment yet.
>>
>>381496929
Tailing missions were a chore, be people or cars. The worse one of all was looking for the bus in a rainy day.
But everytime I had the opportunity to skip travels I would. I just read whatever conversation Phelps had with the partner but when the talk was over, skip skip skip.
