Quick rundown, it was a solid arcade racer.

Unique bits are as follows;

yup, the whole idea of the game was that you need the power of the sun to kill the enemies. your gun's battery could only be recharged with solar energy that you got by standing in the sunlight (while being in a spot in the game where there would be light as well like near a window or outside). the mechanic worked very well and made resource management important and made stealth a useful mechanic.
the boss fights worked in 2 stages, the first would be a normal sort of boss fight.

once you beat them you had to drag their coffin back to close to the start of the level and destroy them with the suns rays, in the second stage you are making sure the mirrors are functional as the boss will try to use their powers to deactivate them and you win once their hp runs out (decreases based on the amount of sunlight the sensor gets).

the solar station: an object that shows up in dungeons which stores a small percentage of the energy captured by the solar sensor at any time that you use to recharge
solar bank: you could put engergy accumulated in the solar station into the solar bank and it would gain interest every day and the rate of interest was based on the day of the week iirc (you could cheese the in game clock but i didn't find out till my 5th playthrough)
Dark loans: lets you borrow solar energy to recharge the gun but the amount you borrowed would have an interest of 300% and you had 3 days to pay back the energy otherwise you had to do a minigame to pay off the loan

there were also items in the game that let you recharge the gun and there was a farming mechanic where you could plant items to get multiple of the same or better versions

the customization system of the solar gun was also great in that each solar battery you had kept the energy stored inside it when you swap it so if you run out of energy on your 5x battery you can switch to your 4x battery which you filled beforehand.

For me it's the Bleed games. except for Viewtiful Joe I have a hard time thinking of fast paced side scrollers with this much spectacle. 1's art is looking hella rough these days but it still has a lot of variety and good pacing without ever straying away from the core gameplay. 2's gameplay and art is much more polished but it's a little too derivative of 1.

Well if I could sell any /v/irgins reading this on them, it's that it's worth a pirate for a good couple hours of play each and if you really enjoy them that might just build to many dozens of hours trying to get through Arcade mode on very hard.

I fucking adored this shitty ass game but I've not seen it discussed once. Understandably so. The game had a weird way of making you feel nauseous; maybe it was because of the shitty graphics and voice acting or it could be the setting but either way, I've not played anything quite like it.

They're fine. The original series (infection, mutation, outbreak and quarantine) graphically didn't age well, but it's still a good experience if you want to get into the story of both games.

G.U. has a faster and better battle system, although I prefer the battle system from the original series which is more about items and skills management, unlike G.U. that is all about good equipments/weapons and party strategy.
