It's complete dogshit. There is nothing justifiable about the popularity it has experienced. It's basically an open world empty arena which turns into a walking sim with some high-tension gimmicks which are totally voluntary like care packages and cities. Weapon distribution is poorly done as is inventory management. Combat is awful, controls are awful, winning is mediocre. What's worse is that all the MTX are shit as well and drop rates on the good shit are well within the 1:10000000 apparently. Basically it's the most banal game one could publish, but somehow it's been met with success.

Last game I joined random 3 guys on my squad
They all die early.

Im drivng and suddenly a 4man squad lit my car up from their car behind mine.
I smack my car into a tree for a fast stop so I can get out without taking to much damage.

The driver of the other car, RAM my car in an attempt to have it bump me and kill me... instead it blew up and all 4 died in the explotion.

All their 4man loot was now mine alone.

That's beside the point though. The game feels extremely stiff and has the poorest netcode I've seen. Its gimmick is fun initially but all of the inherit game engine and serverside flaws wear on you very quickly.

There are clear issues with the game (performance, cheating, netcode, being in early access, wonky car physics, a bad melee system and having a shitty fucking name), but the gameplay ranges from OK to amazing. It's OK and most of the valid criticism of the game (randomly dying from someone you never could spot etc) only happens when playing solo.
Playing in a squad or duo makes it much, much more fun. There's huge tension in the long buildup with looting (if you want to as you can always drop in a more populated area with higher chance of better loot), and since you lose all your loot when you die, every engagement is very intense. Playing in squad and duo makes the firefights much longer since you can revive each otherm and one guy hiding behind a tree far away isn't very likely to kill an entire squad without them fighting back. I like the long buildup and the tension, but some people really don't.
Compared to other games of the genre, it's simply more fun There's no crafting and food you have to consume like in DayZ, but it's also not as arcade-y as H1Z1, and there aren't really any
The devs are adding things and patching stuff frequently, and they actually seem to be releasing the full game That can, of course, change.
It's popular with mean evil normies and popular on Twitch, which automatically makes /v/ hate it.
I really didn't think I'd like it that much, but it turned out to be the most fun I've had in a video game in ages, despite the flaws.

I really wish there was a good battle-royale game with decent combat. These unfinished cashgrabs will do the same thing they did to the zombie genre before I get my wish.

I have friends with worse computers playing it, but at ultra at 1440p, even my build with an i7 7700k and a 1080 stutter from time to time.

It runs like shit and the main menu is so glitchy it can fuck up it's own resolution. So you cant even play normally because the mouse cursor will be off in all the menus.

If you were dumb enough to purchase The Division, survival on that is a better experience than pubg.

Compound that with third person camping and its just not fun to play most of the time. Even when first person gets added, camping will just be much worse since you can't third person entering buildings. The camper will just win.

/v/ is always wrong. I've got a 1070 with 8 gigs of ram and pretty old CPU and I get 60 FPS with no drops. The only settings I've turned off of Ultra are foliage (for extra visibility) and shadows (turned them down to high). And anti-aliasing of course because who likes that shit.

eh i don't know what kind of computer i have i just paid to get a new one since my old one is almost 8 years old now. It runs fine for me and for the people i play with they just have everything on low for their rigs and they seem to work just fine. Make sure to have your foliage all the way down.
