It's not especially well explained. When you first enter a city, you more or less get told that you whisk away to an aetheryte when you're KO'd. But that's more of a gameplay explanation. As seen by your fellow Scions, aetheryte travel isn't something limited to being the WoL. Even Rowena teleports between idleshire and mor dhona using her own private aetheryte and Alphinaud briefly talked about using the Aetheryte in the Ala Mhigan quarters as a means of ferrying troops.

It is known that aetheric interference is an actual thing, so it may be that the Garleans disrupted the flow of aether around the crystal. Also that the attack was against the major stronghold of the Resistance and that there wouldn't have been many people in the first place making it back to help.

2.0-2.45 DRG was dogshit legitimately underpowered unlike WHM/MNK/PLD in 3.x. In 3.x they were good only by the virtue of the addition of a ranged DPS. Their personal dps was still beyond the lowest of the melee so it's baffling that they would so tentatively change their potencies by 10/20 while NIN who was already on the level of DRG with the best debuffer in the game, would get absurd potency boosts.

People keep complaining about SAM damage but NIN has legitimately been the most dicksucked class since it was introduced and I'm sure once you factor in TA contribution, they'll beat SAM too.

I've strictly played Paladin for everything in SB so far and I did perfectly fine in every dungeon while earning plenty of comms and even a compliment or two.
Pulls are still absolutely mindless and I figure out boss mechanics pretty quickly.
The only problem I had is that the damage nerf for tanks keeps causing me to overestimate my enmity lead and I keep having to go back to Shield halfway through fights when I wouldn't have to before.

DPS is the only group that doesn't have to worry about anyone else. You literally just have to follow your own rotation, not stand in stupid and kill stuff. If a healer or tank screws up its a wipe. If a DPS screws up the raid can usually finish the fight without them.

There's no merit to just killing off characters for the shock value. At a certain point, you just start writing yourself in a corner because you have to spend time and effort cultivating new characters only to kill them off. Keeping in mind that this is an MMO and character progression is hugely limited by development time. At most they can have the delivery moogle quests and the such but every character that dies is literally years of progress down the drain. Sure they can kill Yshtola off but for the people writing the MSQ, the gain of appealing to edgelords and people who want the Walking Dead is hardly worth the effort when it'll take literally years to reconcile the loss of the character versus a tv show that moves on in a few weeks.
