standing is without moving the buttons. You're just standing and performing the combo and jumping then hitting those air combos. It helps to know SG combos go from light to medium to heavy.

Also, chunk your inputs, master the first four, then the next four, add them together, etcetera

This. Don't memorize it as a whole. Practice it in segments and put it together. It does more for your muscle memory this way as well. Also, it helps to get timing down faster in longer combos since sometimes timing between links vary.

I can't do the second part well.
I can do the jumping normals just fine, but trying to do that special with the backwards quarter circle is ridiculously hard.

All I can recommend is looking up videos of the combo being performed, then slowing down the speed to see how it actually works. Sometimes the timing for some combos are a bit tricky. At any rate you just have to keep trying and trying.

Nothing, skullgirls is best redpill for FG genre, it probably turned countless people from wasting their time on this genre by clearly presenting what they are expected to do to be competitive.
