How do I get a job in the vidya industry /v/?
>>
Why would you want a job in this shitty downhill grading low pay code monkey industry
>>
>>381447326
Computer science and/or engineering if you actually want to make money

Hurrdesigning and writing for shit money
>>
>>381447541

to make video games and they have a lax dress code.
>>
>>381447541
this

zero job security, sounds fun
>>
>>381447326
Make a YouTube video telling how much you want to work for Valve, even if it means being a coffee bitch or janitor.
>>
>>381447326
be absurdly good at math or be a exceptional artist.
>>
Oh, I don't know. Maybe have some skills related to the trade like the rest of jobs?
>>
>>381447326
99% of jobs in vidya industry is making shit games that higher-ups tell you do make because shit games sell
do you want to make farmville and match-3 clones while working 10 hours a day?
>>
>>381447326
Have a good portfolio, make a game demo, make it easy for studios to see your work.
>>
It's easily one of the worst industry you can work in.

Don't let yourself fool by some Valve or Blizzard PR pictures.

It's not because you enjoy playing games, that it is actually fun to work in this industry. (+ you don't make anything great, you are just an ant: either you code, or you draw stuff, or you record some tracks...)
>>
>>381447326
Get good at programming, getting a degree from a respectable institution might help but in the end it all comes down to whether or not you can code correctly and efficiently.

Having personal projects in a GitHub or anything similar helps, practice for the interview.
>>
>>381447326
Realistically: find a job and work on learning to programm/make assests/whatver it is that interestes you (this can be done in combination or on the side) and then start to build up a portfolio of small games and projects

Meme Route: Spend 5 years a game college and get a worthless degree.

1. Go to art school for 3d modeling
2. Graduate with massive debt, get job with AAA dev making entry level wages
3. Work 80 hours on a good week, no overtime
4. Spend a year and a half working crunch time, miss those 80 hour weeks
5. Get fired when game ships
6. Repeat 2-5 for next decade
7. Have too much experience for entry-level wages, don't get hired anymore
8. Find another profession

Watching porn is better than working in the porn industry.

Same shit goes with video games.
>>
You probably don't actually want one. It's extremely competitive so companies treat their employees like shit. Your odds of working on a game you'd actually want to work on and not Barbie dress up games are very small. If you do end up working on a game you're interested in, you'll know how the sausage is made and you'll grow to hate the game after you play through the "press x to jump" tutorial 500 times.

You'll watch as the ambitious game design your team came up with is gradually cut, censored, and otherwise meddled in by executives.

Then, when the project is over, you and all of your friends are laid off.
>>
>>381448537
>you and all of your friends are laid off
Except for your friends who died from stress-related diseases or killed themselves when their families left them because they were never home. Those guys don't have to be laid off.
>>
>>381447326
Market yourself as an ideas guy. It's what companies desperately need right now.
>>
>>381447326

>working for a company
>shit work with shit hours for shit pay

>working alone
>if you don't hit it big you're gonna struggle
>>
>>381449341
>unironically being an ideas guy.
>>

You might be able to backdoor into the UX Design field, get your Graphic Design degree and work on your webdev at the same time, you don't need to be a great artist desu, just really analytical and willing to interview people.

Eventually do UX at any major video game company and possibly make video games more intuitive to use which is kinda cool I guess.

Or try Marketing, you always see those soulless VP Marketing creeps at E3 and so you get to really be in the mix of vidya but again you need to be a people person HARD.

I believe the other anons got the idea with the other ways in.
>>
>>381449783
>tfw rewritinig framework for the 4th time because no ideas
>>
Step one
Become a numale (assuming you aren't already)

Step two
Create a sales pitch as an "ideas guy"

Step three
Start multiple crowdfunding efforts including kickstarter, gofundme, and personal donation. preferably pocket about 90% of what you make

Step four
Produce a shitty rpgmaker game with the money you earn, doesn't take any effort

Step five
Release on steam, preferably in early access state

Step six
Shitpost and virtue signal on twitter and shill your games on some sort of anonymous image filesharing chat forum

And you're done. You now have as much clout and as much relevance as any indie developer to ever exist.
>>
Become a reviewer and give perfect scores for your favourite company in return for a "community manager" position
