You're confusing yourself. Halo 2 seemed harder because all of the great players who easily got to 45-50 in Halo 3 could only make it to 35 or so in Halo 2. It meant that there were semi pro players playing against average players. The reason for this is because it was impossible to get over 40 in Halo 2 because of all of the modders.

Best campaign = Halo 4
Best multiplayer = Halo 5
Everything else is for either contrarians or oldfags trying to make the old game good.
