The joke is that the trailer literally showed the text "We" then panned to Egyptian scenery. "We Wuz Kings" is a direct mockery of the theory that the Egyptian rulers were of African ancestory even though it's been disproved. Then, we see some characters and they're all very dark.

There's no fucking way nobody involved with that trailer wasn't aware that the game would get this attention. In fact, I'm almost positive starting with "We" was intentionally so they could drum up controversy.
