How do you feel about Devolver Digital's E3 press conference?
>>
Stock Adult-Swim humor stretched to a seemingly absurd length as to give the impression that you're witnessing something of significance.
>>
It was well done. Jokes didn't drag out, felt like a 20 minute e3 special for a skit show.
However, it's the sort of humour that /v/ associates with reddit so you're not allowed to like it,
>>
really roasted my almonds

It was shit and Devolver lost $100,000 due to their unfunny joke.
>>
>>381423845
perfect parody of e3 conferences. not sure why /v/ hates it so much.
>>
>>381424074
I would rather exile myself to reddit on the internet for an eternity rather than read another post made by you.
>>
>"Hi we're Devolver and we're ready to show off some FUCKIN' games!"
>the redditor begins chuckling because she said a bad word and you're not supposed to say that at E3
>"Look at this guy, he's all happy and normal AND THEN HIS HAND GETS CUT OFF AND THERE'S BAD B-MOVIE EFFECTS WHOOAAAA!!! AND THEN WE PRETEND IT'S NORMAL LMAO!!!!"
>the redditor laughs out loud, spewing cheeto crumbs over his desk while feeling good about himself because he understands ironic humor
>"AND THEN THERE'S JUMP CUTS AND IT GETS REALLY FAST AND IT'S SO SURREAL AND THEN HER HEAD ASPLODE!!!!"
>the redditor gasps for air as he slaps his knee while acknowledging that it's bad on purpose and his mom probably wouldn't get it
>"FUNNY BURRITO XD"
>the redditor immediately logs on to /v/ to post about how it was kino and goes back to binging Eric Andre
>>
It was shit because they didn't really talk about games. Worse than the ea conference.
>>
>>381424278
wow real ebin, keep it up and you'll fit in by the end of summer
>>
as a parody of e3 conferences, not bad
as an actual e3 conference (which is what i went in with the expectation of, and was really really excited for) literally nothing
>>
>>381424153
The joke was BECAUSE they lost $100k. Devolver wanted to have a big e3 presence and got shut down by the city of LA. Devolver thinks it's because e3 stepped in, but there's no real evidence.

Their 20 minute press conference on Twitch was a response to their off-site getting preemptively shut down.

The pre-pre show was great, I only wish I could have participated in it. Yes the humor was often terrible, yes it encompassed the same bad aspects of modern culture it parodies, but to me it was just people having E3 as a springboard to secure a massive twitch viewerbase and using it to just fuck around for hours and waste everyone's time. People critiquing it as a professional piece of comedy are viewing it from the wrong angle.

the only part that got a laugh out of me was getting Suda to parody his own botched Nintendo speech

everything else was pretty cringe
maybe if this was made for E3 2010 it would have worked, but yeah it really is just PFFR / Abso-lutely humor that has been done to death this decade

I liked it. Maybe it's because I don't watch adult swim anymore. Since all of their shows are absurdist and boring. So I don't get the "stock adult swim" complaint so many people have. I found the jokes funny. And was honestly disappointed it didn't go on longer.

It reminded me of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared.
>>
>>381424473
Hang on. You're claiming that only AFTER they got shut down, they magically conjured up a script and actors and props and film equipment and a studio to shoot a 20 minute presentation?

It was kino in a dumb way, but made even better by the reactions of the tryhards who hated it.
>>
>>381427904
they're in LA. how hard is it to find those things? and it's not like their script was SOOPER refined or anything. A writer could've come up with that shit in an hour.

For the people that try too hard on /v/ it was reddit humour.
For the average /v/ user it was a hilarious shitpost about e3.
For normies it was cringe because it didn't fit within their tastes.

The prepre show was amazing. I would've watched nothing but that for pure coverage of E3.

There's also guilds and contracts and casting. There's no way they could have pulled it off. How much time did they have to prepare? Not even in LA could they actually *film* a sketch like that in a manner of days.
>>
15 minutes of mediocre ebin self-aware humour followed by a somwhat funny fuckabout show that lasted a tremendous amount of time.
Wolf Cop was a good movie.
>>
>>381428646
>They had four actors. That was it. It was on an empty stage, with special effects that could be put together quickly. You could have spend a day or two getting people together then film that shit in an hour.

I didn't watch it, initially (the rage that the Beth conference caused could only be subsided by fapping and sleep). I did watch it the next day, it was okay, I don't know why it's become an area of contention for /v/ it's either
>this humor is reddit
or
>everyone who doesn't like it is a mongoloid
>>
>>381424278
Why are you proving him right?
>>
>>381428806
I was there for the rebroadcast where a few of the people involved were answering questions. Apparently they'd say things in his ear sometimes but otherwise just left him to it.

They also apparently told the guests to be a dick to him as much as possible
>>
>>381428729
Why did you quote that?
I just don't see the logistics. Where did they even find the woman who "hosted" the thing. She was good. She was just sitting on her hands doing nothing when they called her for a job?
They scramble fast enough to put the script together, grab the actors, make the props, practice, film it, get some stock footage of the audience, settle contracts, edit, and everything involved in how much time? How much time did they have realistically?

Don't you think it's far more realistic that they planned the sketch from the beginning? And that getting their little side festival shut down was a coincidence?

Why do people keep comparing this to Tim and Eric?
This is like when people kept calling everything "reddit". And I'm like, "How would you know, unless you've been there?". Because I've never visited reddit for long. I tried the site a couple times. On occasion, while searching for information, I might stumble into a reddit link, get the info I need, and then leave. That's all. So I don't know what reddit is all about

Ironically, everyone screeching "THAT'S SO REDDIT!" Must have a decent working knowledge of the website and it's behaviors. They must be visiting reddit. I get the same sense from all this tim and eric complaining. You must have been a fan of their comedy for some time to think this style of humor is "cliche" or "tired".

cringeful, however, I got genuinely pissed at the part about "your half-assed comments you post get magically added to the game", it was supposed to just be another "funny" moment but I took it personally because I'm a manchild and wished my opinions would result in game changes, I was very serious when I gave feedback and suggestions in official game forums years ago, now I know how meaningless that is and I'll forever be mad about reality being a bitch
>>
>>381423845
I thought it was funny. A lot of the humor didn't come from what everyone was calling reddit-tier. It came from the implications of how lines like the woman telling the audience "We're professional journalists here" connected to real life.

The swearing and attempted edginess felt really Ubisoft a few years back and some of the predictable gore was a buzzkill but the rest of it was a nice weird parody of companies dropping a bunch of money for an E3 conference.
