Square really makes some weird choices sometimes

Aside from that though, it's an ok game. The battle system is probably the best version of ATB that ever existed. The game is really easy though so you never get to use it in a situation that requires you to use its tactical potentials though. You can change job in battle, but you almost never need to.

gameplay wise it's good

like the battle system and job system

the story and execution and reuse of assets is not good

I remember being hyped for it when it was first announced because it was the first direct sequel to a Final Fantasy game to ever be made.

It was a pretty good game, combat was great, dress sphere was fun, the story was complete ass though. I don't mind that they made things more light hearted in comparison to the first but there were far too many cringe inducing moments in the game.

I was going to give a long introductory reason explaining the contexts and reasons behind why I hate this game so much, but I figured no one would give a shit. The short answer is I basically don't like anything about it. I hate this game to admittedly comical levels it was a real life person I would be a mustache twirling villain waiting on the sidelines to fuck this dudes shit up. I consider it the breaking point between good Square and forever tumbling down the winding shitter Square. It might just be the starting point of cancer and a Pandora's box of godawful shit.

I actually don't see it getting much hate either which was always the strangest thing to me. Everyone I know who cared about RPGs loved it at the time. People still over praise it to this day. I feel alone in my hatred of this game. Most other Final Fantasies even the most beloved ones like 6 and 7 have a dedicated hate-squad against them. I don't really see that for this and it constantly get put on awards list here and it has been jacked off to the stratosphere in Japan. /v/ doesn't even give it much hate which is kind of a small miracle in of it self.

What did you think about the gameplay? You said you don't like anything about it, so what didn't you like about the gameplay? A lot of posters on /v/ seem to have the opinion that the game is saved by its gameplay.

Those games that have a dedicated hate-squad also have a lot of fans who think their game is the best RPG ever created, if not the best game. FFX-2 doesn't really have that, most if its fans acknowledge the game's weak points.

Digimon World 1 beats X-2 by miles in terms of fucking you over without a guide, you were pretty much punished if you didn't know how to raise your mons and even then the game had a lot of bugs so you wouldn't be able to tell unless you looked it up online. Then theres the high level recruitable digimon that show up randomly, you can run into them at the wrong place and time if you didn't have a guide and be fucked into a battle.

The game play and by that I mean the combat is admittedly still mostly the same as any other final fantasy before it so in that sense it isn't really exceptional but on a basic level it isn't the worst aspect of the game either.

It's more everything around it I don't like. The summoning system sucks, having rotating party members is lame, the Spheregird was the worst thing ever conceived of by people that are allegedly human, Ok so maybe it isn't that bad but I still don't like the fucking spheregrid. X got hit by the ongoing corridorization all environments every game seems to love now. I hated the idea of Blitzball and how it seeped into the combat.In general. At the end of the day you can put all this aside and say "Yeah but you were just hitting big number pinatas in a turn based system like most of the games in the series. " As I already conceded but everything around it just seemed like a step backward or otherwise stupid. It's hard to really explain why because I think this is a sum of it's parts sort of failure rather than an obvious huge flaw in it's execution.

Most people concede at this point that 7 was over hyped and may have been a little overrated at the time. If you say any numbered Final Fantasy was your favorite that happens to be 2D even if you grew up in that era get ready to be called a hipster and a tryhard at the very least by the kids today with the hair and the clothes. Both of these are merely the tip of this iceberg of hatred these titles get now but they seem to be rather common negative sentiments surrounding the particular games.

I don't really see a coalesced form of hatred around X of any kind or a general negative sentiment about it. Aside from laughing memes but even those aren't an indictment against the whole game.

I think X's story is put together well enough, and the gameplay is very simple. The game being as linear as it is also makes it so people can't get overwhelmed. The main criticism it gets is probably the whole thing about Tidus being a dream not being understood correctly by a lot of people, until someone teaches them about the two Zanarkands.

I don't think X deserves the spot of "best FF" but I don't think it's overly offensive either, just a polished game that doesn't try anything different.

X has the best visual aesthetic in the series I think. Not many games go for the coastal, East Asian look with such an emphasis on nature and forests. It's a really beautiful game, visually speaking, and the water effects are top notch. Also I never got the hate for Tidus.

I really recommend X-2 if you liked X. The vast majority of the hate for the game stems from the fact a while lot of people were 12-14 when they first played it and thought it was "gay" because it was all girls. The plot is very similar to the backstory of Terminator in a lot of ways, Vegnagun is basically skynet.

Rikku was my first crush ever, both IRL and virtual. I had many posters of her in my room from vidya magazines.

Story, villains, and new characters were trash. The excuse to "but freedom!" for Yuna's change in appearance and attitude was weak (a little is fine, but she's not anything at all like she was?).

The gameplay was great. It's basically Tactics or V expanded without the SRPG side of it. I really wish they'd make more games like this, Tactics A2 etc but not have them be tactical style RPGs. It was fun, the (non-lyric) music was good, and I thought the Overdrives were nice to look at.

Character progression in X is more limited than people like to admit. The games rails you into a linear pather for every character and unless you go out of your way each character will be the same each player through until you get to the endgame where the only difference between each character is their overdrive as far as endgame goes.

In the version Kimahri has the strongest damage potential in the game (lol) in the original it was Auron.
