I quit this lame ass game when I realized the artificial difficulty bar is elevated far above skill in terms of outplaying vs your opponent at a high level.
It's not made to be played competitively, and Melee HD will never be produced because Nintendo knows it. It's the truth.

The reason why Melee got so big recently is because a huge influx of people who grew up playing the game realized there was a massive competitive scene, and the only people who were decent at the game were people who had nothing else going in their life so they decided to play this game for a living instead.

This game won't go up into e-sports like everyone thinks, it will go down slowly but surely after people get bored of stupid exploitable shit like ledge grabbing, controllers being awful and not made for high level play, defensive play being amazing and boring as fuck to watch, Fox dittos, etc

Since it died it took me a while but I finally picked up melee and learned spacies. Now that I've limited myself to the top tier it's no longer fun, I miss viable DK and Ganondorf from the PM days.

The biggest comfort I get these days is the schadenfreude of seeing the melee community being torn to shreds by how hard nintendo/reggie/sakurai ignores them to a vindictive degree. I look forward to abandoning smash completely for actual fighting games like Xrd and DBZFighter..

You shouldn't undervalue the bullshit that Melee has, that only makes me believe you are relatively new to the game and/or as bad as you are projecting onto me.
I stated that skill -does- trumpover all, but only at a high level. That mid to low level play will only fucking drive you crazy with bullshit.

Let me elaborate with wobbling. Are Ice Climbers a bad character? Yeah. Is there grab fucking garbage? Yes, but they only need 1 (ONE) grab at a decent percent to not be able to mash out to get a stock, whereas you still have to work 10 times as hard to convert stocks.

Therefore, if you do not work around the Ice Climbers player's grab game (which some literally dedicate their lives too like autists) a higher percentage of the time while still killing them you will statistically lose to them.
Ice Climbers do very well at nationals becauseof this factors and also that pools start relatively early in the day, spacie players don't get a lot of time to warm up their hands (or have shit controllers and get grabbed out of dash back also) and as a result throw sets.

This is just one example in the game that I hope I made clear, there is a ton of bullshit that honestly takes away from the value of it all.
