While I like BBS, it added a lot of things that "retroactivly" ruined a lot about what I liked about the series. The command deck is really over powered. Some bosses are really unfair and require me to cheese them, which also make a lot of commands I thought were cool irrelevant I'm looking at you time splicer.

I never had a problem with commands being "too overepowered". I played completely fine going through the game with commands I wanted. Dark Firaga, Ars Solum, Chaos Blade. Who the fuck didn't use commands like that when they felt so great to use? And the command styles too. What I mean to say is, Kingdom Hearts is challenging enough on the harder modes just because it is. But you can play however you want and it wouldn't do any hurt to you. There is a lot of variety. Hell, D-Links are fucking awesome too. Some of them have really cool finishers, and abilities, like Ventus's haste which makes Terra swing like lightning fast.

I platinumed the game, and after platinuming DDD, I realized how BBS felt compared to it. There is a major difference between them. In BBS it feels more like KH1 light, while DDD is like it's own thing. Enemies in Dream Drop react way differently too. Fighting a group of enemies in DDD is chaotic, and you have to guess when to block because enemies will zoom around and hurt you. .

I got the 1.5 and 2.5 remix from amazon last wekk, honestly it's still a very fun game. I remember playing the 1st game on PS2 as a kid and having the extra content for 1 along with every other game after I'm done is a good deal for £25.

The combat isn't amazingly deep, but it's enough to keep you on your toes. I'm curious to see if the secret final bosses are as difficult as I remember them being.

Chip damage is negated by Zero EXP, which I turn on after I hit 50. Before that, I never had a problem, though.

Commands are more powerful of course, but that doesn't mean your basic combo attack strings aren't, and they can be more strong than many commands. I use them all the time.

You are missing the enemy. Are you talking about when you fight those large Unversed in the tornados, specifically the Yellow Mustards with the Hourglass? Yeah, when you try to attack them in the air, it won't always register because you aren't fucking hitting them. That's literally only a problem with enemies so high up and are hard to target. Ravens aren't that bad.
