I'm in a static where 5/7 of them are hardcore NEET skippers and I managed to get past raubaun in a few tries on the first day while they were gated. Made me laugh when they started shaking with autistic rage at SE and how much time they wasted logging in. Started out in limsa something as an arcanist and made my way to 20, then I decided to check out thaumaturge and went to Uldah. But I see like no quests there at all. Just don't cheap out on the cables and the breadboard if you're gonna use one.
Regarding the voltages, just pay attention and you should be fine. Data pins generally use 3.3V and pure power (e.g. for actually powering LCD screens) is on 5V.
LCD screens also generally have an integrated resistance limiting that 5V input to not burn the backlight LED. Make sure you do get a screen with a backlight for lisibility.
Google the RPI pinout.
There's also nice vids on youtube explaining how to interface HD44870 LCD screens with RPIs or Arduinos, and libraries for actually sending data to the screens.
