It's not like the American voice actors are total shit, it's just you need to have a good director to make sure they don't phone it in.

A good example is almost the entire cast of XBCX worked on Fire Emblem Echoes, and they did a good job of emoting their lines. (If you think echoes had a bad dub, you're an elitist retard.)

Of course, we still didn't get to hear Shulk's voice until the first Xenoblade had already come out in Europe. And seeing as this is a very different case where getting the game out in all regions around the same time is actually a priority this time, I doubt we're going to hear Rex's voice again until the game is actually out.

Of course, that doesn't exactly disprove my point about context being extremely important. Hearing Shulk just screaming in the American trailer, without any context, would've sounded ridiculous. But we know how the game led up to that moment, we know why he's screaming, so we associate it with a major emotional turning point that becomes essential to his character. Obviously, we haven't seen anything like that with Rex yet(because that would be a spoiler), so it just sounds silly without any buildup.

It's a shonen, you have to let the story build you up before it gives you the big payoff. Without the buildup, you can't suspend your disbelief in the payoff.

My only issue with the combat is needing to build up to do anything. So you spend most of the fight just standing around waiting.
