I remember Coliseum as both awesome and terrible in different ways.

I'm curious as to what exactly people are hoping for in this new game. Some kind of fully 3D classic Pokemon with some open-world elements (i.e. wandering Pokemon and such)?

They weren't even that good, but at the same time GameFreak has been putting in less and less effort into their games over the years. I wish they could put in an "Adventurer" difficulty and a "Master" difficulty. One for the casuals and one for the veterans.

Nah judging by the latest pokemon games, they won't be anywhere close to as good as colosseum and XD.
Frankly if you've played these games within the last 5 years you'd know that they are some of the best pokemon games released and the format is actually very good, though they could do with some tweaking.
Hopefully the new game will be XD 2.0, without the shadow mechanic although I did enjoy it.
They'd need a expansive post game content like emerald though.
Perhaps it could have some interesting gameplay related to topography?

Stuff like the Orre Colosseum and Battle Frontier that expects you to know how to build an expert level team and use the battle mechanics properly.

I'd love a cool protagonist again, Collosseum had an awesome one but in the mainline they've all been tremendous faggots since ruby/sapphire and the remakes even retroactively made them faggots too.

I agree with what the anons above have said but I felt like the game was missing a little bit of the charm that the first game had in terms of the pokemon it forced you to used and it was a bit grittier.
That reminds me though, the new pokemon game better only be 2v2. I think that's the only thing that could justify having a console RPG in 2017.

Now I think about it all I can remember is the one where you have a lvl 5 magikarp against a lvl30 Paras, the one with mind-lock and OHKO moves, and the one where you have to frindly fire you own Wobuffet.

Yeah, the mainline Pokemon games are pretty formulaic. Colosseum and Gale of Darkness felt more like Pokemon mixed with a more traditional RPG plot.

Weird how Gamefreak just decided to try something different by removing gyms but the Colosseum/GoD devs already did that years ago and it worked well.
