The game is pretty good, but either you play with pubs and it's awful, or you play with friends and it's piss easy and repetitive. After playing it for a good number of hours I feel I've extracted all the fun it contains.

So I tried the demo, because everyone said it was so good.

But the movement is clunky, the graphics are dated as shit, the shooting is FUCKING ABYSMAL, and it's just 100% one-note "shoot infinite waves of police with no variation".

What exactly makes this game a "gem"?

Play on Overkill. Any difficulty under that is for mouthbreathers. Most specials will spawn on OK and enemies arent bullet sponges yet.

Spree is single difficulty that cranks up the longer you go. Eventually normal cops become basically bulldozer.

The movement is perfectly fine i dunno what you're on about.

The shooting is fucking fun honestly. But it might depend on the weapons. Stuff that released more recently has better animations and more work put into them, you can really tell a difference.

Tanky movement controls are due to your heavy ass armor or lootbag, otherwise dunno what you're talking about.
Shooting is pretty damn good, you can even hipfire accurately, there are mods and skills that can make reloading and gun interactions faster.
Graphics don't mean shit and it's pretty decent.

Stopped playing at crimefest fiasco.

Is armor viable again? Or is dodge still straightforward better?

I havent played any Payday games and was tempted to buy Payday 2 ultimate edition on PS4 while it was £10. I don't have a decent rig at the moment due to student life.
