Why is this game so hard? I sit in practice but I can't remember combos to practice
I want to be good at this game so fucking badly

Like any fighting game, it takes a lot of time and dedication to get better. It's the kind of thing you either like or hate. It's a niche genre for a reason.
Either way, here's some starting advice
1. Practice whenever you can, even 15 minutes a day will go a long way to building motor memory.
2. While some characters might have weird control schemes or gimmicks, there's really no such thing as a "beginner character" not even Ky (he is a jack of all trades though). Just choose one you like for whatever reason (buttons feel nice, looks cool, liking the character themselves).
3. While characters in GG vary greatly from each other, you can usually assume a very basic control scheme that works with all of them. Quick jabs being better at point blank range, slash being used for mid range, 2HS can usually be used as an anti air, 6P tends to be a counter poke, and so on.
4. This isn't exclusive to GG, but it's the most important advice anyone can give for a fighting game: There is no "getting good". The objective is to "get better". That's the appeal of fighting games at it's core.

I'll always prefer GG, but I play a bit of Blazblue on the side. It's pretty good in it's own right. If I had to categorize the two I'd put it like this.
>GG
>40% SNK, 60% it's own stuff
>freestyle your combos (best part IMO)
>matchup light (barring occasional exceptions like Jack O vs Axl)
>very fast paced
>combo light, setups and keeping advantageous neutral is better than losing damage to combos higher than 9 hits
>quasi gothic elements in a contemporary hard rock themed 90s anime aesthetic
As opposed to
>BB
>60% Guilty Gear, 40% Street Fighter Alpha
>matchups are more important to know
>more gimmicks (my personal favorite part of BB)
>knowledge of bread and butter combos and links are much more important, less room for deviation (least favorite part, but I can see why some like it)
>not MAHVEL levels of touch of death combos, but certainly on the combo heavy side
>slower paced (which works better for BB, considering how much you have to know and be aware of going in)
>early 2000s high fantasy aesthetic, with some great chuuni for good measure
Shame BB is going the visual novel route for the future, but at least we're getting more attention on GG again. I'm a Hakumen main in BB by the way.

Guilty Gear is a bit harder for me than BlazBlue, since I started with the latter but I like it all the same.

You practice gradually. Try to have some basic gameplan, like being able to loop your pressure, have a good damaging bnb, know what move use in what situation. Once you have those basics, you just play the game, see what you're lacking, and try to focus on that point. If you think that you're not getting better, then you lab for more mixups or more optimized combos.
Keep in mind that you cannot possibly learn every mechanic at the same time. So just get the basics, then jump in the online, get wrecked, know why you get wrecked, correct the flaw, and do it until you become godlike. Getting destroyed may not be the most fun part, especially when everyone can do that. But once you set your goals, like "I wanna beat this guy", then the game gets much more fun. And when you manage to accomplish your goal, you'll be a happy man.
