Void Lords are beings in another plane, immaterial. They want to come to the "real" world, but they are so massive they'd need way too much energy so it doesn't work, so they can't do what they want - fuck things up.

Then they noticed that titans existed, and saw that the titans were really damn strong - in the material world- so they tried to corrupt the titans. It didn't work.

So they tried to corrupt titans when they are vulnerable, by sending a small, really small, amount of their beings in reality, just before being born. By corrupting a titan they can fuck things up. Sargeras realized their plans, and starting fucking things up.

Some of those beings arrived in Azeroth and started fucking things up, to corrupt the titan inside. Pantheon found Azeroth, killed the strongest old god, realized that almost fucked the titan inside, and imprisoned the rest.

Nope, not any more. Adventurers are classified as great heroes, far stronger than the average soldier and in par with important NPCs. They just aren't like this in game for mechanic reasons.

There's no true cannon to how many adventurers it took to kill certain bosses, but each one is implied to be a combination of both Horde and Alliance soldiers roughly between 5-10.

Once again, in game numbers and factions are purely for game mechanic purposes.
