Is this the next evolution in controllers, /v/?

the nostromo + mouse should be the next logical mergevolution of pad + mouse. It makes sense, doesn't it?
>>
but i'm left-handed

Just get a xim4 and use it on all your consoles

There's actually a lot of Overwatch players on PS4 who connected a mouse and are getting way higher rating compared to those who use a controller.

Funny thing is Blizz can't do shit about it either.

I don't get why they just don't get it for PC but just wanted to share because I think it's funny there's actually a market for these crap accesories.
>>
>>381334312
tbqg I already use this on some games for PC

Hold my dualshock 3 in my left hand and mouse in the right
>>
>>381335127
I use xim4 for single player shooters not on pc
>>
you talk like it's anything new

on console I just use a normal controller + mouse using GIMX
>>
>>381334312
These aren't new at all , kid. Also just buy a fucking PC
>>
>>381334991
oh right, I forgot logitech had a similar thing. I never tried any of them, but both seem pretty good (also your filename spoilered your image insult)
>>
>>381334312
I wish these things weren't so horrendously expensive. There's no point in buying one only to style on controller players every once in a while but going back to controller aiming always feels terrible.

Orbweaver master race.

I actually mostly just use it for my art.
Regular mechanical keyboard is fine for games,
although speedpads are nice for laptops or playing on a XIM4.
>>
That shit is pointless. Nearly all FPSes use 8way movement so there's zero point in a using a stick.
>>
>>381335461
Pretty much objectively wrong here bub. Not for aiming.
>>
>>381334312

Nah, for fps/third person shooter it's stll shit compared to kb+M. MUCH better than a normal controller though.

Main reason it's bad is because you have to stop moving if you want to do anything (only reach 2 different butttons while moving, keyboard is about 5 incredibly easily and up to about 10 with little effort)
>>
they really need to fucking invent an alternative to a controller already. Something with mouse percision but couch friendly. Controllers are holding gaming back more so than inferior hardware

As much as I dislike Razer, I am considering finding a used Orbweaver from back when the still used Cherry MX Switches. Membrane keyboard is my only complaint with the G13.
Although after taking a closer look, the Orbweaver seems to small compared to the G13 layout. I just wish they had a mechanical version.
>>
>>381335735
More than that, you can hit q, e , r, f, c, Z, ctrl, tab, and 1-4 with ease
>>
>>381334312

This is no joke, I've actually done both variations (I have a PS3 controller). I find WASD hand + right joystick side much better.

I usually do it when my carpal tunnel acts up.

problems with the nostromo

>1: is that actually an analog stick or is it a fucking d-pad (thumb-control),

>2: problems of adoption/"standards"

>3.'hand" (yes most people (even lefties) use a mouse-right-handed, most people use the right-analog stick on a controller for "camera"-control, what if they don't?)

ideally such a system (of gamepad with analog for left-hand + Mouse for right-hand) would be adopted as the "logical solution",

but I don't see it happening: You've got to keep in mind shit like the Nostromo, or Logitech g-13 are expensive and really "niche".. make it something like $20-$30, and get some developers (both FPS and RTS) to shill for it.

and stuff which are just WASD-keypads from odd companies (like ACEPHA, or Koolertron) don't really count since they lack the analog stick.
>>
>>381335852
The non-Cherry MX keys aren't bad. Obviously it's typical Razer being scummy and cheap that they didn't use real Cherry MXs but I haven't had problems with it as of yet. Also, I've heard that the rubber on the older ones can come unglued, but don't quote me on that. If you can find one with green LEDs and you don't mind not being able to change the color you'll be good I'm sure, although I haven't had any problems with my Chroma yet.
>>
>>381335852
Noob question, whats the problem with the switches that razer is currently using?
>>
>>381334312
This work for single-player FPS like DOOM and Prey?
Heard there's issues with these console mouses since they're having to mimic an analogue stick.
>>
>>381335946
>>381336040
but its still nowhere near enough to play shooters and rts comfortably? I admit I havent tried but thats what I gathered from feedback
>>
>>381336226

You should just try hooking up a PS3/4/Xbox controller. Much easier.
>>
>>381336303
hooking up an xbox controller to a ps4, eh
>>
>>381336347

Oh I thought this was for the PC for some reason. Fuck me.
>>
>>381334952
This thing is such cheap fucking garbage
>>
Why does everyone jerk themselves over a gamepad? Unless you need more than 8 directions or movement, a keyboard is more precise and more responsive.
>>
>>381335948
>>381336087
>>381336404

I believe the nostromo stick is actually a D-PAD, but Logitech has a similar product (the G13) that has an analog stick.
When I said "the nostromo", I'm not advocating for the product, I'm trying to start a discussion about the concept.

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
THIE ANALOG STICK IS ON TOP
what a slap in the face of sony ggers
>>
>>381336490
it is indeed very precise, thanks to the precision of a mouse for camera and aiming. But "on input continuous movement" is indubitably better manageable with an analog stick. Sure you can just pick one of the two methods and call it a day, but wouldn't a middle ground between the two be the optimal option, if possible?
>>
>>381336746
I'd try it
>>
>>381336210
The switches are off-brand imitations of Cherry MX, meaning they're not the same quality. That's not a dealbreaker, though. The main problem is that since they switched switches heh the build quality also dropped. Recent Razer products have a terrible reputation, which is why I would get an older, used product if I ever get Razer.

>>381336278
I haven't tried it with RTS yet, but it works fairly well in shooters. It's obviously not as accurate as kbm, but it's miles ahead of twin stick, and you will always sacrifice something for the comfort of your couch, unless you're willing to get something like the Corsair Lapdog.

>>381336087
>>1: is that actually an analog stick or is it a fucking d-pad (thumb-control)
The Razer one is 8-directional, while the G13 one is analog. However, I have yet to find a game that accepts it as analog.
>>2: problems of adoption/"standards"
You can set them up to input whatever you want, be it WASD keys, media keys, macros etc. The only issue would be the analog stick being accepted as an analog stick.

>>
>>381334312
my 12 year old nephew wants one to get better kills at overwatch. is it worth it?
>>
>>381336851
How so?
It is less precise (due to not moving exactly in a certain direction) as well as slower (due to having to move the stick instead of just pressing a button)
The only time to use a gamepad is for when you need more than 8 directions of movement, or need a gradual change in movement speed. Both situations don't need a mouse, so you're perfectly fine using one or the other, instead of trying to create some bastardized hybrid.
>>
Gyro controls are the future.
All of the major platforms except for Xbox already have gyro controllers.
All that's left is for devs to start implementing it more in games.

If you really want him to massacre people on console, get a xim, not this chink shit.
Using a mouse, even a mouse at 90% effectiveness, with aim assist on is basically like activating a cheat code.

Not him, but I got.one of.these, and it's the most godawful shape I've ever seen. Using a chroma as well at the moment, praying it doesn't break on me.
>>
You can get a g900 wireless mouse for almost half price refurbished and comes packaged as if it's brand new
>>
>>381337493
Really? I think it's pretty comfy. Most mice the days have packaging that let you feel the shape, though, so you should always do that before buying.

thanks
>>381337485
i don't want him to become like me
>>
>>381334952
Bought a refurbished one for 40$, it has been sitting on my shelf for two years
>>
I really hope splatoon's gyro (assuming a dualshock or whatever can also reproduce it) becomes a standard control option for most shooters.
>>
>>381337652
I can't get an in-depth opinion, I used it for three hours and that was so miserable I sent it back 30 minutes after, but it seemed to be designed for people with tiny hands or something. The little flare on the side kept getting in the way of my thumb, and it made it feel unbalanced whenever I lifted it up, which at 600 DPI is allot. The button placements were all awful, and I kept tapping then just moving the mouse around.
>>
>>381337401
But I don't need some fancy shit, I just need a mouse that has two side buttons and won't take a shit on me after a couple years of use.
>>
>>381338056
Also, I used the wired version. What the fuck is wrong with you recommending a wireless mouse?
>>
>>381338034
never played splatoon but liked how gravity rush used gyro for precision aiming on Vita

no idea if the option was still there on PS4, but wish more games had something similar
>>
>>381338459
This isn't 2005, wireless mice don't suck anymore.
>>
>>381338541
if anything, I feel like having a bothering wire attached makes me lag more in term of movement
>>
>>381334312
They finally realized mouse is 10x better than a fucking stick for accurate aiming.
>>
>>381334895
>xim4
Looks cool but it's fucking $130. Too expensive for me.
>>
>>381338541
>>381338660
The why even recommend a mouse at all when you can get better performance from a 5 dollar wired one?
>>
>>381338034
Uncharted on the Vita had gyro aim assist and it was fucking great
Sony puts gyro in dualshock 4,uncharted 4 doesn't use it
Kill me
>>
>>381338764
it did?

how did I miss that when I played it, I would've loved to use that
>>
>>381338764
a few vita games did similar things, they probably felt that the analog stick was too small and it was needed -- while on a bigger one everyone's been fine with it so there's no need, which is too bad

they could also just go ahead and add native keyboard&mouse support, most PS2 shooters did it and a few PS3 ones (UT3 let you have controller-only servers if you felt it was unfair), but the trend died
>>
>>381334312
Yes, but maybe without that garbage touchpad part of it. Ideally, you'd want something that fits a single hand better, like the wii's nunchuck. Personally, I'd add a couple of extra buttons to the nunchuck, probably somewhere below the analog stick.

been around for a long time already

but you have to put that touchpad somewhere if you're going to make it for PS4, I imagine it's very light not to feel too awkward
