To give backstory on Mergo, the Pthumerians and their relationship with the Great Ones, and to reinforce the Arianna-Cainhurst-Pthumeru connection. Lovecraft was obsessed with genealogy and the perceived purity/impurity of bloodlines, it's a recurring theme all over the game.

>>381334787
They read all the item descriptions, visit wikis, and join lore discussions.

Which is really way too much work when they could've just spelled it all out for you by having an actual story.

No, they're shit.
>>
>>381335148
To create a unique storytelling experience for anyone who cares to pay attention. Dumdums can just play the game and not have to care about the story at all. They get to hit things with sticks and laugh like donkeys.

Other players though get a completely different experience where they can act like sleuths and pay attention to little details to piece together the story and solve the mystery on their own. It's an excellent and really creative storytelling technique, especially when that story is as good as BB's was.
>>
>>381335476
It's a pretty tedious grind if you're obsessed about exploring everything like me.

Did you play the DLC? that is certainly worth it
>>
>>381335476

You missed around 1/3 or maybe even a half of the game's content.
>>
>>381335148
I actually like pulling up new items that I've unlocked or found and seeing what they add to the lore. While I would like a more coherent story from the games as well, I do like the way you can "discover" the story.
>>
>>381335148
The story comes through a lot of stuff. As long as a thing is really suggestive and interesting at a level of feeling, through immediate audio/visual appearances or more articulated writing/speech, that's good storytelling you can smear your imagination all over.
You can simply convey a bigger "constellation" of story through words, spoken or written, and BB is 90% written and 10% spoken. Tying them into items is a nice way of adding to the fun of the treasure-hunt. I won't say there's no better way, but it's one of the more enjoyable parts of the games for me.
>>
>>381335476
No. Going through the areas is very tedious and very few of the exclusive bosses are actually good
>>
>>381333139
To try to lure you into wasting a bunch of time grinding through the chalice dungeons. Not fucking worth.
>>
I wish the Chalice Dungeons had more lore significance. I mean does anyone else find the disconnect awkward? Just underneath Yharnam, is an endless labyrinth of weird shit.

All of his attacks are one hit kills except his arm sweeps and the acid unless you've been pumping vit like mad, and he has a shitton of healt so it's a war of attrition. You basically can't get hit for 10 minutes or you lose. It's a hard fight.

They're literally where it all started. They're where Byrgenwerth discovered the eldritch truth.
>>
I don't know how chalices work. I put one in every tomb (but the first one, which is online only) and got to the end of all of them, the best reward i got was one rare gem (and the trophie for it). What else there is?
>>
>>381346743
That's it really. I only played the dungeons for the trophy
>>
>>381333139
How many people have actually fought her? I never see people talk about her at all.
>>
>>381345494
Phase 3 is the easiest part. Just stand by the tip of his tail and he'll do the jump attack turning 180 degrees. Start a charged R2 when he jumps, whack him in the head and then run under his legs and back to the tail.

>>381346743
The tombstones in the Hunter's Dream are misleading. There are 10 fixed dungeons and infinite root dungeons, so you have to re-use the tombstones eventually.
If you have the Yharnam Stone then you've done all the mandatory dungeons.
Then if you want endless dungeons with ridiculous challenge and super autism gems, make Root Ihyll/Root Lower Loran/Root Isz dungeons with all 3 difficulty mods (Foetid, Rotting, Cursed) enabled.
>>
>>381346743
It's actually pretty simple, the chalice speedrun is:

>Pthumerian Labyrinth
>Central Pthumeru
>Lower Pthumeru
>Ailing Loran
>Cursed Pthumerian Defilement
>Pthumeru Ihyll

You need materials to make chalices, and the materials to make Cursed are in Loran, you can remake chalices for free by searching for their glyphs, re-run them and gather necessary materials each time if needs be. You will also need to have collected materials in the story from chests and boss drops. You should be picking up everything normally, the game gives you enough. After completing certain chalices, you can also buy some materials, going into NG+ makes every single material available for purchase, I believe.

Depth 5 dungeons (depth is difficulty, 5 is hardest) give better gems but cursed dungeons give the best, at the price of a random curse. The goal of the chalices is to get all the root chalices to be able to explore the truly randomized dungeons to get top tier gems, variations of weapons and runes.

Pthumeru Ihyll is the end of the 'story chalices', Hintertombs (which you find in Central I think), Lower Loran and Great Isz are all entirely optional.

>>
>>381341145
>>381343302
>Cursed Amygdala
Is unironically the easiest boss in the game. If you stand under it, it can never hit you. Even the jumping attack can't hit you for some reason.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV8TWOzphJM
>>
>>381333958
You mean easiest, right? No idea why she was at the end of the chalice dungeons
>>
>>381348234
No fucking way. I refuse to believe that I fought the same boss. I remember his jumping attack tracking better and having a way bigger hit zone.
>>
>>381348080
Did you make it to Pthumeru Ihyll?

Cursed gems come from Cursed Pthumeru and random FRC dungeons, they offer the best numbers, but come with a curse, the worst is ATKdown, the best ATK down vs beast/kin, there's also HP drain (second worst), stamina usage up and durability down.

And yeah, while you're in cursed dungeons, your HP gets cut in half.
>>
>>381348234
Without abusing some cheap ass strategy he was the hardest boss in the game to me
>>
>>381348954

You're just bad at souls.

I'm not...most people aren't, but this game was marketed to casual gamers. I understand why you're bad at it and you shouldn't try to think everyone is as bad as you are.
>>
>>381348954
The jumping attack can never hit you if you stand under the tip of his lobster tail, he just puts his head straight in your weapon's path.
Pretty hard legit fight though.
>>
>>381348954
It's intentionally designed to try and catch people when they roll from it. If you're right between his legs and stand still you're fine, but if you move after or at too far back and closer to his head gg no re
>>
>>381348954
>>381349079

they're in the ailing land of Loran, which is an older civilization that discovered the blood of the great ones and used it. lower loran chalice says that 'there are remains of medical equipment found in there, but whether these are attempts to control the outbreak, or the source of it, are unknown'

basically loran discovered the old blood and its healing properties and developed blood ministration long before byrgenwerth and the healing church did, and now everyone in loran is a beast and their entire civilization has collapsed

do any of you people even play king's field or have played king's field.

>>
>>381350993
It's not even nostalgia, it's just a good scene - you're still excited from the phase 1 fight and it's the swelling of music and the completely out of nowhere normal human dialogue from him that makes the scene what it is. Moonlight GS sure, it's always fun to find where it is in the game, and it's also a really cool introduction of it.
>>
>>381350993
>Why do people get so excited over this?
Because the boss with one of the best designs in the franchise who is extremely important to the story wakes up halfway through the fight because his sword communes with him, and the scene itself is very dramatic and well done.
>>
>>381350993
Really well-made cutscene. The dialogue did nothing for me either, but the last still in the scene, where he holds up hid blade to cover up the deformed beast-half of his face to seem a little human one last time was fantastic.

Well. Good Job?

You're not bad at the game. Congratz on getting your platinum trophy.

Try not to trip over your ego. I am however still 99.67% positive you are bad at the game despite being contrary.

The argument was never about me being good or bad at the game.

It is now. You felt the need to defend it with your trophy. You have nobody to blame but yourself for this conversation.

the "storytelling" is perfect for these games, it contributes a lot to the atmosphere

I was told to beat the game once, the platinum trophy requires you to beat it three times.
>>
>>381353467

Or just save state before you eat the cords and get all three trophies on normal game. Getting platinum is pretty unspectacular my dude.
>>
>>381353765
Even if you did that, it requires you to beat the game once, which was what I was told to do.

I love Bloodborne, but I really think they dropped the ball on the Yharnam boss fight. Not that it wasn't a great fight (because it definitely was, easy or not it was very cool), but you get nothing for winning. Would have been nice to get access to some blood magic or something.
>>

I believe you my dude.

Why?

I'm confused. Who took it and caused noght of the hunt?
>>

There's no trophies for that tho brah. I had to play inquisition.

I've been playing vidya for 25 years, my first game was Zelda 2. In all honesty I think Bloodborne may be my actual favorite game of all time, and I unironically think it's as close to a flawless game as vidya can get. I really can't think of any negative the game has, and even my other favorites have a litany of problems.

The one and only issue I have with Bloodborne is it's not on PC because I'd love to play it at 4k/144 fps. Other than that, the game itself is just fucking brilliant in every way and I feel sorry for everyone who can't play it or can't enjoy it.
>>
>>381350993
I got chills when I first played it simply because of the amazing music.
>>
>>381352010
There are actually people on /v/ who haven't platinumed it, if you can believe it.
>>
>>381355135
Honesetly having played DaS1 and 2 on PC, I'm glad its not. The community is full of cheaters and I don't want to see that happen to BB.

Different builds and level caps
>>
>>381355413
Well I've never personally cared much about the PvP elements on Soulsborne, though BB is the only one I've enjoyed invasions or fight clubs. Cauliflower-mode with the parasite and HMGS is so much fucking fun.
>>
>>381355542
I'm already at the level cap.

Orphan of Kos (or some say Kosm) is the only difficult boss in the entire game.

God damn. Do you ever see the second old one in pursuit?

Steam achievements were added like a few years after DaS was released on steam. I've beaten the game multiple times and probably don't have that achievement.

The swamp actually makes me think FRC Hintertomb.

Its either FRC Loran or FRC Hintertomb.

>Entire cutscene focuses on the human side of his face
>Name changes from Accursed to Holy Blade
>Orchestra and choir intensifies so much it's almost too loud

>Scripted stagger and visceral attack at the end

He's so handsome. Even if you skip the cutscene, I like to believe Ludwig is scripted to time his explosion aoe when the music kicks in. He's done this a good number of times for me

What's the online only tomb for? I don't have PS+, so i can't try it.
