How do you feel about the evolution of The Sims series?

I like sims 4, but the fact that it's not open world like sims 3 ruins it.

I feel like 2 is the strongest game, but it's hard going back to after the open world in 3. Being able to control a sim out on a community lot and jump back home to keep an eye on what's going on there is so great. It's one of the reasons I haven't jumped to 4 yet.

I think 2 excels in the personality of the sims and the wants/fears stuff, I don't really care for the traits system in 3. Also Open for Business was fantastic. One of my favorite playthroughs in 2, I had a my sim marry a plantsim. He was a robot maker and she made clothes on the sewing machine. She also painted, I think. Then opened a little shop and sold robots, clothes, and paintings. Built a servo to help around the house, he became an ace gardener and I had a nice little greenhouse to grow crops.

But my favorite part about that family was the house I built. The second story was done in greenhouse walls and roof, so the plantsim wife could hang out up there and work on sewing and stuff during the day and get sun at the same time.

As far as the overall evolution of the series, well... it's EA we're talking about here. I feel like things that should've been added to the base game in the newer titles is kept out and then sold piecemeal. IMO weather should be a base game feature in a life simulation. Most of the stuff in the Generations expansion for 3 should have been base game. From what I've seen of it, the new Parenthood pack for 4 should have been base game.

I'm all right with paying for expansions that really add a lot of content and allow you to do new things, but it's been getting out of hand for some time now.

3 was my favorite after all the expansion releases. Closely followed by 2.
Both 3 and 4 on release was gutted to unbelievable levels and 4 still is.

BUT HOLY SHIT. 3 is the most un-optimized piece of shit ever.

Sims 2 is the best. Tons of content, Still runs very well. Having to have a certain amount of friends to advance in your job is really fucking annoying but it does give you something to do/keep watch of. High quality of content/Expansions and the best mods

Sims 1 is great but was obviously improved upon heavily by it's sequel that completely outclasses it in nearly every way

Sims 3 was awful when it came out and currently it has the most content but it never feels as fun or rewarding as 2, Had (And still has) a fuckton of bugs including bugs that rendered you unable to save after playing long enough and is a stuttering piece of shit.

4 still sucks and has no content, The Expansion packs barely have any thing to do, Just feels like a lesser version of 2.

I find myself alternating between 2 and 3 while I try out Sims 4 every year or so to see if it's good yet

Sims 4 honestly looks fantastic. Aesthetically the best game in the entire series.

Unfortunately, it's pretty lacking in gameplay. I tried the 48-hour trial version, and at the end of it I felt like I had pretty much seen all I wanted from the base package. New game packs offer more stuff to do and more ways to do it, but most of them are just remakes of older expansions with one or two new ideas thrown in.

The game alone is like $40, a single expansion is $30, and a game pack is $20. I'd end up paying over a hundred dollars for a game which is, at its absolute best, The Sims 3 but prettier.

And if I wait a few more years there'll be a full torrent of the whole thing anyways.

I think 2 is a great entry point, but I can't agree that the open world is a bad thing. Sure, you could play more than one household in your neighborhood in 2, but you could still only play one at a time. If I'm remembering correctly, the other households are static while you're playing. So if you want to have multiple households age up alongside each other, it requires a lot of jumping back and forth between them. I always found that kind of immersion breaking (as my family gets old and and the grandparents die Lilith and Angela Pleasant are forever teenagers) and kind of a pain in the ass, generally not worth bothering with, unless I wanted a specific sim to age up or something.

So I decided to finally break down and download the sex mods. Found out it's actually incredibly easy to install them.

How come there isn't an option to impregnate with the sex mod? Why is the only way to have children to use the in game vanilla option and not have one of the animations result in it? Is there a mod that includes risk of pregnancy?

I've only played the Sims 3 and I've only made one sim on it.

I made a fat goblin looking guy marry into the richest family in his town, then I killed off the family and invited all their neighbors over to their house and killed all of them, too. I guess I forgot to get rid of their tombstones because before long there was like 10 ghosts just roaming around and I accidentally made a haunted house. Somewhere along the lines the goblin guy got a robot best friend from those little happy rewards you get and I made the Robot become a firefighter. Then I drowned both of them in a swimming pool because I got bored and never played again.

eh, someone could perhaps make another Sims type game. I'd like to see one where the focus is on things like quests (which tie into wishes/fears) which some of TS3's expansions toyed with. Kind of like the PS2 titles, although there needs to be a greater reward than just new house objects.

Also, there has to be a way to make the "environment" moodlet more important. Ingame it's really just a way to justify buying art but not much more. Perhaps splitting it into 3-4 moodlets would work, and each moodlet would add a modifier to other devices (eg, using a toilet in a room with tile walls makes using it faster and degrade slower).
