Why Australia can't into economics?
>>
Is it true they banned gta? What other stuff do they ban and why? Violence against women?
>>

Nope. They banned Left 4 Dead 2 though.

It's just depicted rape and drug use. Australia being Germany-tier is a total meme.

No, one retailer pulled it from their shelves months later, the kind of retailer that has videogames tucked way in the back of the electronics section, has 2 copies buried in a mix of other popular releases and tons of shovelware.

Sorry to hear mate. I can't believe how expensive shit is here. Even renting a half decent room in a shared house as a student bleeds you dry in this country.

Where do you reckon is a more affordable alternative if you want to own a home?
>>
>>381328335
I know. We are renting a 2 bedroom place here at the moment and it's $925 a week. So insane.

Japan. I'm moving there in a month. Hopefully permanently.
>>
>>381328335

>>
>>381328516
Fark, that's an insane price for a 2 bedroomer. Didn't realise it was that bad. Is it at least a good spot?

Japan has always been the place I wanted to visit the most, like so many others. I've heard from some that if you know what you're doing its cheap to live month to month. How are you going about it if you don't mind me asking? Would have to have some stable work I imagine.
>>
>>381328781
Read his post again, he is saying it is bad for the economy.
>>
>>381328160

>>
>>381328904
Yeah we are in a good spot, so it's KIND OF worth the price, but not really.

It is really cheap to live there, especially if you can get by not living in a big city. My partner has a job over there so I am going with them and will try to get work myself hopefully. Just gotta give it a go and see what happens.

Anon, Japan's economy isnt all that better. They go through regular recessions and it's unbelievably competitive to get a job. I was there on a study tour in 2015 and the uni students there were all infatuated with Australia and were shocked when I told them it was essentially the same except worst because weaker economy and way less production jobs. That and their work/life culture is honestly garbage. All the best though, hope you have a plan at the least.

Not even close to Tokyo. To give you a taste, our rent for our 3 room apartment is going to be about $720 a MONTH, so about $180 a week.

On that note though, I have lived in Tokyo before and rented an apartment for about $1000 a month or $250 a week. Still so much better than Sydney. That was only a single room apartment though.

Thanks! We are really looking forward to the break.
>>
>>381329649
Absolutely. I dont think you realize, but economy is straight up fucked, with no future proof plans to fix it. We well for the services meme, got rid of all our production jobs, still kept the high minimum wage and have people entirely dependent on welfare. Every budget they drain different sectors from funding to support welfare. This is why our education system (among other sectors) is fucking garbage. Weep for the future m8 - it's looking grim.

I've lived in Japan for over 6 years, central Tokyo. Apartments are small but reasonably priced for a large city. You can find studios for about $600 a month. My place is $750 and it's big for one person.

Food is cheap if you go grocery shopping. Eating out can be fairly cheap as well provided you don't binge and stay away from high end places. I have lived off of a $200 monthly food budget before but it was difficult. $3-400 a month and you can eat very well. Again this is all in Tokyo; in smaller cities everything is cheaper.

Teaching English is the easiest route to get started with. Jobs are plentiful and the pay is decent. I've heard you get more out in the countryside but work is scarcer. Actual Japanese work culture is brutal and stifling, highly not recommended. Many foreigners insist on trying it but almost all end up overworked, underpaid, stressed out and generally unhappy. Working for a foreign firm in Japan is supposed to be better but again jobs are hard to come by unless you are a specialist in a limited number of fields.

All three of those California places make sense since it's square right in the bay area, where all "100k+ starting" jobs are.

Living in Santa Cruz would be living the life. Imagine being within biking distance of the beach and less than a 20 minute drive to work and due to constant tourism the city is always alive with events every week and new people.
>>
>>381331465
It isn't for everyone. You spend a lot of time alone, probably more than you're used to. The fag in that video is a bum however. If you listen to the whole thing, which I unfortunately did, he clearly came over with a set vision of Japan in his head and was then disappointed when it did not turn out to be like he thought it would.Your mileage may vary but if you come here with an open mind you'll find it to be a pretty great country.

He also says living in China is much better and I call bullshit on that. China is a shithole by any standard.

It's not considered the devil, but internet as a commodity is basically ignored by our politicians. The entire country is run by people who think the only relevant jobs are coal mining, healthcare, or trades, so software and tech industries tend to suffer. Our internet is utter shit because they simply don't see having first-world internet speeds as being a priority, and we're lift with copper-wire that's slower than the standards of Latvia and Peru.

>>
>>381332720
Yep, the NBN. We currently use a copper-wire system that gets extremely bottlenecked, so during times when everyone's using internet (so mornings and evenings), it becomes slow as shit, especially in rural areas. It's also just fucking slow in general, due to being fucking copper-wire.

The NBN was a plan to upgrade the nation to a fiber-optic cable system and give our speeds a massive boost. It basically would have been Australia's digital equivalent of Eisenhower's highway system.

But we've had 5 Prime Ministers in 5 years, our politics has fallen to shit with people appealing to the major voting bases (i.e. baby boomers) and stuff that costs a lot but only benefits the younger generations gets pushed aside.

Basically our internet is crippled, when it has no reason to be so.

The Labor party started implementing the National Broadband Network, which was designed to upgrade Australia's online infrastructure. Not long after work on it started the Liberal party was voted in and severely reduced the scope of the project, under the guise of saving time and costs.

This was years ago and the project still hasn't been rolled out in significant areas of Australia and costs have ballooned beyond the estimates of Labor's initial plans. Furthermore the "upgrades" are basically almost obsolete already by modern standards, with some customers complaining that their internet speeds are the same or worse than prior to the NBN. So basically our internet infrastructure is fucked for the foreseeable future, and I have no hope of any political parties changing that.

Then we become the system we hated and keep the cycle rolling.

Why wouldn't you want to live in Australia?

It was the Coalition government.

In Aus theres:

>Labor party who are the unions / workers / muh true blue aussies.
>The National party who are the muh rural issues what about muh farmers
>The Liberal party (who are actually socially conservative but liberal in the economic sense of muh free market but not really) and closer to American republicans than you may think.

The Nationals and Liberals formed the LNP Coalition to stand better chances at beating Labor. Elections are tug-of-war between an Australian population that goes 'ow! I'm never voting Labor!' then 'ow! I'm never voting Liberal!' with the added issue of leadership challenges and political scandals meaning leadership of the parties change and there is tons of backstabbing.

Imagine musical chairs with out of touch old classical liberals, farmers, and out of touch baby boomers. Political dissatisfaction is high and the hilarious racist "One Nation" party of Pauline 'please explain' Hanson fame got a LOT of protest votes as a 'fuck you' to everything that's happened since around 2010.

Plus, outside of the cost of everything this is actually a great place to live. High standard of living, good weather and safety. There's a reason our cities keep getting ranked so highly.

I wrapped that shit in one of my best card protectors and told him to take extra good care of it and to not trade it away no matter what.

It got him into collecting too. He's not as hyper autistic about it as I am but he's snagged himself a few good pieces here and there.

this thread presents some pretty good arguments like how importing is cheaper, which is retarded and local prices getting jacked up and this new tax on internet good and for what

Most of our problems come from our aging population.

Young people (i.e. people that actual worry about the future) are the minority, so our opinions don't matter to politicians.

It's like living in an elderly home. We need to get the fuck out and let them fuck themselves.
>>
That's what you aussies get for shitposting so much. You, hues and Canadians all deserve it

The thing is, we already have to pay sales tax on Amazon because they're headquartered here. I wonder if Amazon pushed for the bill to reduce competition.

I'd be less pissed if we didn't have so many bullshit taxes in Puget Sound. Half my tax rate is paying for stadiums and buses in Seattle when I live in Pierce County.
