Nidhogg reminded me a lot of the old Commodore game. Shit was pretty sweet. I'd play a dueling Zorro game like that.

There's a new Zorro movie in the works, but it takes place in the future, thus a sci-fi setting, yet Zorro will still wield a rapier as his weapon of choice.

Why would it need to be that?

I think a fencing game in a style somewhat similar to Punch-Out would be the best fit. Otherwise a Ninja Gaiden style sidescroller.
