To be fair HotS 2.0 actually make getting stuff easier if you have a little patience. You get a box every level, rare ones every 25, hero specific chests, and can craft with shards you get from duplicates. Why spend something like ten bucks for ten boxes when you can just level a few heroes and get them for free?

The rest of what you say still stands. WoW is dying fast, Starcraft fizzled out before the second 'expansion', D3 is basically on life support, Overwatch is a hastily thrown together game made from the scraps of Titan... everythings just sliding away.

I won't lie and say I'm not excited for the remasters of WC3/D2, so long as they keep the gameplay the same and reach out to the original artists behind the game like they did with the starcraft remaster to get everything exactly right.

D2 is a great game, it's a fact. But I can't understand supporting a company who is fucking things up this bad. There's so many games out there and so many indie studios taking risks, why prop up the corpse of Blizzard when you can play some other isometric rpg? The hate I have for what they've done to Starcraft 2 overrides any nostalgia I have for old Blizzard games.

WC3 or D2 remastered is something I would check out on Twitch for 10-15 mins and that's it. I'm bitter.

I play PoE already. I've also given Torchlight and whatnot a shot over the years. I'm looking forward to Lost Ark and Lineage Eternal to scratch that "ARPG" (they're MMOs though) itch.

I hate nu-Blizzard too and haven't even touched HotS or OW. Yet, it's funny seeing them become desperate enough to go for remasters after years of having this retarded inferiority complex towards their old predecessors. They went from "lol look at how SHIT Diablo I was and these fags actually like it LMAOOO" during that Diablo III April Fool's event, and the infamous "You think you do, but you don't", to now admitting people actually liked the old games a lot.

It's been over ten years. Twenty, even. The old devs who made those games are fucking gone. The new devs seem to be pretty fucking salty about the fact that people are so nostalgic about the ""old"" Blizzard. I think many don't even realize that those people have left and it actually kind of maybe even offends the ones currently working on whatever the fuck they're now doing.

I fucking loved Blizzard as a kid beginning with Warcraft 2. It was just hit after hit until they released WoW. I thought the idea of a MMORPG sounded good to me because I imagined a Morrowind with other people but I only played it for two or three months before I dropped it. Diablo 2 is still my favorite game of theirs, and may even be my favorite of all time. I still love its art style to this day. It's a shame what Blizzard has become. Their name on a box once stood for such high quality.

Reading up on old articles, it seems like it was Vivendi's idea, who owned Blizzard at the time. Vivendi at the time owned Blizzard and merged with Activision. This is the same Vivendi that was rumored to be interested in buying out EA.

They've changed their design philosophy a lot though. The games aren't of bad quality, but they are very shallow. They don't have the kind of longevity and depth their old games did. They're aimed at casuals -- an unbiased statement not meant to discuss whether or not I personally like that.

Like, look at Diablo 3. It completely revolves around the ladder seasons, even more-so than D2 did in its good, later years. People start playing for the new ladder and stick around for 2-4 weeks and then fuck off until a new season starts when they hit the real grind. No one likes grinding for the ancient legendary RNG upgrades so everyone just gets their class set, the few bis uniques there are, and fucks off when they get tired of the no-trade RNG.

It works, it's fun in small doses, but it doesn't last long.

They really did. The merger probably forced some layoffs and other voluntarily quit down the line. This also probably led to the disastrous dev cycle of Diablo 3 and its eventual release.
