if I want to get into fighting games in 2017 what is my best choice, from what I know SF5 is bad and tekken is really only for tekken players, that leaves injustice, MVCI, the weeb fighters, and the upcoming dragon ball game, I've never really been competant at anything but SFIV, so what's the current consensus on must play fighting game right now?
>>
Super Smash Brothers? How the fuck should I know. I don't play fighting games.
>>
>>381309975
nigga then don't answer the thread, I played some smash 4 but I sold the game when I discovered the online sucks and the game really isn't that fun if you don't have friends to play local with.
>>
SFV is shit but it's still the best fighting game.

Maybe you should play SFV and form your own opinion.
>>
>>381310116
Pretty much this, SFV still has the biggest playerbase, most viewers, and probably the longest expected lifespan. Good for a beginner to pick up too. The core game is pretty good but can fall flat once you've hit like plat/diamond if you don't like the depth, and almost everyone has problems with the UI and Capcom's consistent incompetence when updating or keeping players informed, rather than the gameplay itself. The only major gripe on the gameplay is unga bunga rushdown = win, which is only kind of true.

well that's a lot of opinions on SFV in a short burst, if I get the game I will certainly not be paying full price, but it does interest me, i just hope it's also not like tekken where every player playing is just a fucking killer and you need years of experience to compete

Most survivability is SFV because it's Capcom. Killer Instinct might get a revival with its Steam release since it has crossplay and will have new players drawn in. Don't know if it will be in the tournament scene though.
>>
I've also been thinking of getting into fighting games, but I don't even know where to start.

For reference I couldn't beat the tutorial mode in Soul Calibur Broken Destiny.
>>
I loved P4A but any other anime fighter I try to play feels too slow for some reason.
That and I can never get inputs right on a controller.

>MKX (dial-a-cheat cheat code)
>Injustice 2 (dial-a-cheat cheat code)
>GG -xrd- (best of the anime fighters)
>Skullgirls (decent anime fighter)
>KoFXIII (closest to old school you'll get without going back to the future)
>Kiohime Enbu (pretty decent, albeit underdeveloped, old schoolish mechanics for a hentai fighter)
>DoA5:LR (3-D tittly fest, saved by a robust defensive / holds system)
>Ougon Kyoku (half old school, half anime -- decent overall)
>Touhou 14.5 / 15.5 (projectile heavy, witch fighter -- think: DBZ with loli witches)

meaning people who have been playing tekken since 1 or 2
>>
>>381309849
Netherrealm games because they are the only ones which are SP-oriented. Otherwise you have to catch-up with people who've been playing for last 10 years at least.
>>
>>381309849
SFV is shit but it's made for the masses so it is very easy to get into. If you were mediocre in SFIV, you'd do quite well in V. Injustice is also an easy game like all NRS stuff, don't expect it to be super deep tournament level (eg. play it for fun). MvCI is looking to be a huge disappointment so far and DBFighterz looks like Mahvel done right. Guilty Gear REV2 will be the most active anime-style fighter. Tekken is a 3D fighting game which is known to be very complex and probably the hardest current game to master.
>>
>>381309849
Dont waste your money on a game you might not like

https://www.fightcade.com/

Pick a game from the list and give it a go, if you like it you can move onto other stuff if not nothing wasted.

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK/Injustice have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

That's a lot of silly assumption anon. Is Street Fighter only for people who have played since Street Fighter I & II?

I'm not even a Tekken player but you have no idea how the game works.

Ao you are just a fanboy after all. How are you loving the daily Tekken threads? You pasta in them every day after all.

kek. Ok anon, you got me, got me good.
>>
>>381310365
That's not really the case with tekken right now. I'm completely new and currently have 40% winrate with 200 matches - which is pretty decent for a complete beginner(compared to other games I started playing after they've been out for a while). There are plenty of people now that are either new or ones that just play every tekken casually for a few months when they come out and you can catch up to those in a couple of days

SFV is a very polarizing game so don't expect opinions on it to be useful. You pretty much have to try it. Maybe have a friend share it with you on steam or something.
>>
Tekken is the best choice for now. Anything but SFV, other fighters are dead, only logical choice.

If you have an offline scene or friends to play with at least, that changes things.
>>
>>381311675
Street fighter games change a lot with each mainline iteration. Tekken changes minor stuff. Really the difference between tekken 5 and tekken 7 isn't significantly larger than between vanilla sf4 and ultra.
>>
>>381309849
Tekken is garbage OP avoid it at all costs
>>
>381309849
desu even if SFV is complete dogshit at high level play since it boils down to who manages to get the momentum first and put the opponent in unfavorable 50/50 situations due to the lack of defensive options, it's still your best bet if you want a fighting game with an active playerbase and that is not too brutal for newcomers.

Injustice 2 is great for single player content (pretty much like every NRS games really) but it's subjectively not so good when it comes to competitive play due to NRS being retarded with patches if they manage it like they did with MKX.

Tekken 7 is fun but has the highest skill ceiling, it's also 3D which might not be up to everyone's taste

Guilty Gear is IMO the best fighting game around, but it's brutal for beginners, even if the game has an extensive tutorial mode (that goes as far as teaching you an option select), also it's anime so good luck finding a local community depending on where you live.
>>
>>381311521
Too bad Rev2 is dead on PC. The only choice I have is either SFV, which I haven't touched since launch (did they add fucking rebindable keyboard keys yet?) and Tekken, which is tough to get into. Might as well git gud though.
>>
Play Killer Instinct. It's one of the easiest fighting games to get into, still has a very active online playerbase, and is coming to Steam soon.
>>
Just keep playing Sf4 until DBZ comes out.

People are only playing SFV because there is money in it. If you are serious about getting into fighting games then try the new Tekken or Guilty Gear, also USF4 is still well populated online (at least on PS4 anyway.) Just pick some games and play the one you like the best.
>>
>>381309849
sfv is probably the best for new people

if you REALLY want to be hardcore you can get guilty gear rev2 which has a good tutorial and stuff but you'd have to somehow beat weebs in 8 player lobbies rather than random mashing kens

also I play on PC and it's not dead but you have to play in the evening when other people are online.
>>
Honestly?

Fightcade super turbo

You will learn fundamentals unlike in sfv.

Don't let the memes fool you SFV is the easiest fighter to get into and it's really fun. Granted half the cast is locked at the start and i haven't played it in a year it's the fighter i liked the most and spent the most time on. after 20 hours you will be able to do most of the basic combos for most characters and that's a lot less time consuming than most fighters.
