I don't get what the question is. Is it simply b=1, a=3 and you have to either add or multiply them together or is there something I'm missing?

Number one word is YEAR, so we know b=E

2 is FORK, but that doesn't seem to give us anything

3 is BIKE, which by OP's logic suggests a = B

Also, it's worth noting that, from what I've seen, you're not supposed to turn the tetrominos like you would in Tetris.

A-F look like they spell BEFORE, and the puzzle for G isn't out yet.
