I can't aim. I never played a shooting game (fps, tps) in my younger years (28 now) so i'm pretty sure both my reaction time and my ability to improve my aim is shot. Map and common tactic knowledge only go so far if you never hit the guy.

I felt like this back in high school, so I decided to get really good at Counter Strike. The better I got at the game the more I realized that the game was fucking stupid so I sought out better games.
These days I pretty much exclusively play singleplayer games. Mostly brawlers, shooters, stgs, and survival horror. Multiplayer games suck because either the game is dumbed down shit because otherwise people would complain, the game is dead as fuck even though it's good, or the game is good and alive but you have to actually meet up in real life to have a good time with it or in some cases play it at all so fuck that.
Also I don't have the patience for story in games anymore. I didn't really care whether or not a game had a story back in the day but these days I'm actually playing games because I want to play a game, not watch a movie or read a book. I'm over here trying to improve my reactions, develop strategies, and persevere through challenges and these fucking game developers are all like "dude, I read about human drama on some blogpost and watched some movies with it and I think it's the coolest shit ever, also I really like stephen king." It's obnoxious.
Also I think we can all agree that Silent Hill 3 is the best silent hill game. Mostly because it takes place inside of a mall rather than an entire city, so there's no more running through vast empty plains only to get held up by dead ends on your way to your objective. Also Heather is a cutie, I want to eat burgers with her.

It's a mixed feeling.

I think my potential in games increased. I used to get my shit kicked in by stuff like RTS and strategy, but my energy and available time to actually practice diminished.

When i was a kid i used to have 10-14 hour long play sessions with my PS2. I cant possibly imagine having the patience to play a game for so long in a single sitting anymore.

I rarely have time to play most days, and only play for a few hours on weekends.
I used to always top the scoreboards in older shooters like Quakeworld and SOFII to the point that I'd use shitty weapons just to make it challenging and a lot of servers banned me on suspicion of cheating.
But now I can barely break even in kills in modern shooters nowadays.

Every now and then, it feels like I get back into the zone that I always seemed to be in 20 years ago and just go nuts, but it's always short lived and I return to mediocrity by the next match or two.
Actually, now that I think about it, being on edge without any rest is what kept me in the zone because old shooters IMMEDIATELY went right on to the next round. Now every shooter has several fucking minutes of cooldown between matches because of fucking Matchmaking. This start-stop shit is probably the point where I noticed my decline, my groove is lost whenever I have to sit there for several minutes of sitting there just waiting to play the game.

I feel bad for cheesing BotW so much. I almost never dodge or shield bash, I just go in and hit stuff hard. If I get hit then I eat food, if an enemy's annoying I use stasis to land some free shots. Anytime I try being strategic I fail.
I don't even lock on to enemies most of the time because I'm afraid my ZR button will get stuck again.
