It didn't take itself seriously. Banter was an in-game thing, all of the characters felt like they were there to have fun. New weapons when first added were usually a mess but god damn did it create some memorable moments.

Servers. I just want to play Escort maps in Overwatch since the other modes are less fun. With Tf2 I can just get myself on a payload map 24/7 server and call it a day
It was made by people who wanted to make a fun game, at least until the crates. Listen to the Hydro developer commentary, or really any map developer commentary.
