Illidan never died, after we defeated him in Black Temple Maiev kept him alive and imprisoned him in crystal within the Vault of the Wardens.

Gul'dan from the alternate Draenor came to our Azeroth and took the crystal with Illidan's body from the Vault and raised the Broken Isles where he brought the body to the top of The Nighthold in Suramar City in order to transfer the soul of Sargeras into Illidan's body. We stopped him atop of the Nighthold and instead just freed Illidan from his prison who then proceeded to kill Gul'dan and inform us of his plans.

He essentially wanted Shadowmoon Valley to be the final battlefield for the war against the Legion training all his Demon Hunters in the Black Temple and was going to summon the Legion to Outland to stop them. But he sent his Demon Hunters to a different planet in order to retrieve the imprisoned hunters but in the meantime we did the Black Temple raid and foiled his plans.

Now we're going to the Temple of Elune (Tomb of Sargeras) where Kil'Jaeden is on the Broken Shore where in the pre-patch we were pushed back by the Legion and Gul'dan and lost Tirion Fordring. In the Tomb Kil'Jaeden infuses power into the Avatar of Sargeras (the same one that fought Aegwynn who also is back somehow) and we defeat it. Then we get on Kil'Jaedens Legion ship as he's trying to escape to Argus and defeat him before he can then Illidan opens a rift to Argus so we can get there easier and that's why it is now seeable in new-Dalaran in the Broken Isles.

As someone who has been playing since beta, it's really sad to see what WoW has become. I only play for the raids now, it's like the one thing blizzard can still do right. I used to enjoy leveling alts and then running dungeons to get them the gear they needed to run with my guild doing raid alt nights. They don't have dev team to pull something like that. From tech perspective alone, WoW net-code is piece of art and engine is pretty gud for 2004 product, considering that blizzard was at death door before WoW release they made one amazing piece tech.

And now you look diablo 3 whit it's problems and bugs and Overwatch whit it's shitty net code, they simply don't have right manpower to pull WoW 2 successfully.

The one thing I've never found in any other MMO is WoW combat. Everything else just seems clunky. WoW combat is smooth as butter and very responsive.

FFXIV will never be a popular game compared to wow, they made sure of that. Gold saucer is completely empty 99% of the time or at best has a few stragglers.

FFXIV is the last mmo I'll ever play which is a shame because it had some good ideas but incompetence and bad design plagues it.

Joining pug raids is pretty easy. There's a bunch of catch-up mechanics and people are overgeared for Nighthold right now, not to mention that because of the whole AP and legendary system, people still want to do earlier raids.

Granted, there won't be any challenge to that, your group will just absolutely steamroll anything in your way, but it will help you catch up to do current content pretty quick.

And if nothing else, you can do PvP and gear up that way. You get absurdly high ilvl gear in PvP now.

MoPs and WoDs story was coherent in itself at most times, if you remove the overarching arc with the old gods corrupting pandaria or WoD time-travel-bullshit. The questing zones in WoD are amazing and really interesting, sadly nothing of the awesomeness of the zones translates to the big stories that are happening.
I dont understand how Blizzard manages to write really really good micro plots, but fails entirely to paint a big coherent picture.

How come nostalgiababies complain about welfare gear when you get literal pre-raid BiS from simple quests? And even then the gear you get from the first raids is barely better. Even in WoD there was a world of difference between dungeon gear and Highmaul gear.

Coherent at times, but in others WoD has particularly retarded. Forget about the time travel for a second. Why try conquering another world when you haven't finished conquering your own? Looking back they should have made the invasion bigger than the Blasted Lands and Blackrock Spire, because as it is it's actually really pathetic. To be fair though, a lot of problems are because development for WoD was obviously so fucked up. Grimrail Depot doesn't serve any purpose.

Yrel was also inexplicably built up from being a slave and had Velen and Maraad sacrifice themselves in their story. Don't forget that Grom and the Horde are forgiven for killing, enslaving, and sacrificing all those people for more than just powering the portal. And Grom ends as a hero.

There's always been really good individual questlines.
