It tends to be I pick huge characters, like Hugo or Potemkin. Controlling a large amount of space with their normals is great, and since most are typically grapplers I control the close range game too. I try to learn the poster character like Ryu or Kyo since they tend to be pretty easy to pick up and learn. I also like the weird characters like Faust if I don't like the other options.

The definitive/latest game comes out in July. The series has a story mode for the first game and I'm praying it's decent since the premise is basically an average light novel.

I really don't see why they should be shoehorning everyone into the plot. Even in GG fucking nobody matters either. It's a fighting game primarily, the VN part of it focuses on a central cast with the rest being there to populate the world and engage in scenes related to their expertise. Also, the "90%" thing is an extreme overstatement.
Ragna, Jin, Noel, Rachel, Hakumen, Nu, Tsubaki, Hazama, Relius, Kagura, Kokonoe, Terumi, Celica, Lambda, Nine, and Izanami have all served major purposes in one or more installments.
Tager, Litchi, Taokaka, Arakune, Makoto, Amane, Azrael, Naoto, and Bang have had a fair bit of screentime distributed to them. Hell, basically everyone who appeared in CT and CSE had entire routes dedicated to them.
Literally the only characters who had nothing going for them were Mai, Es, Hibiki, and Bullet. 2 of those characters have their own series anyway, so having them play a massive role in the story was never necessary.

The thing people tend to find most complicated about BB is the several terms that are used in different contexts that people find hard to keep track of. Also, CS was definitely not the one that left people confused, that would be CP because of how it basically rushed through everything and explained nothing. CT as well, since it was a mess that had to have several portions of it retconned to make sense. CF and CS stayed relatively mild in that regard, though the last part does basically start expositioning about the background related to Saya and No.5, which made for some confusing scenes since they share a voice, and the dialogue is pretty ambiguous.

Though the fact that you even made the 90% claim is enough to show that you really don't know what you're talking about.

As for the other characters you mentioned, they acted literally the exact fucking same as they usually did. Ragna acted the same we've seen him in flashbacks, Jin acted the same way he did in CT, Kagura acted the same way he always did.

Legacy Weapons were explained and elaborated upon in XBlaze, don't try and take credit for explaining what had already been told. It didn't provide any information concerning PFDs that we didn't know, and what the fuck did it even say about the Duodecim besides "they exist"? You mentioned the NOL twice, and but in reality it didn't show shit for that either. Again, it was just a backdrop for them to walk around in.

You are right about the Platinum thing though, so if you somehow think that Platinum's backstory (which we were already told in CF anyway) is somehow more relevant than the relationship between Relius and Valkenhayn, as sell as the backround for Valkenhayn's eventual servitude to Clavis and the nature of Clavis himself, then you would probably think you're right. Chaos is being played significantly more since the UNIEL days and he's around A-B tier now, which is significant because UNIEL tiers had him at the absolute bottom with Seth and Akatsuki. I think he just has better consistency with Azhi and slightly improved normals, I'm not sure what QOL of benefits he received to make him better to play as but it's there.

The girls explore Torifune and you can get a pretty good idea of what the academy was like from the manga. Also RH shows what normal grimoires are like, something that wasn't touched upon in the games.

Jin in CT was a psychopath who went AWOL because he wanted to murder his brother. He most certainly wasn't that way in RH. We see what sorts of missions Jubei sent Ragna on and how he interacted with others. As for the Duodecim, it shows how cutthroat and paranoid they are. Jin's family keeps sending assassins after him and Houichirou thinks trysting anyone is a sign of weakness. Also we see that Kagura had Jin under his wing and was protecting him from assassins, as well as that he had spies spread around who reported to him.

Xblaze first showed Legacy weapons, but VH provided additional information on them and their connection to Noxes. And VH showed that the NOL was producing PFDs other than the Murakumos, such as Embryo Storage units. Claiming that CF explained Platinum's backstory is the equivalent of saying that CT explained the Dark War and that all of Phase Shift had nothing new.

And I think you overvalue Valk and Relius. Valk isn't really relevant; all he does in CF is unsuccessfully try to murder Amane and he carries off Rachel after Ragna mindwipes her. As for Relius, he was partly responsible for the Black Beast's appearance and provided vessels for some of the characters, but in the story he mostly goes around observing people.

Phase Shift went into detail over how Ishana was, Remix Heart barely even cared about the fact that it was a school for any other reason than as an excuse for them to have schoolgirl outfits. Normal grimores are never brought up because they're entirely fucking irrelevant to everything. This is yet another instance of "they explained this thing that is only ever relevant here so because of that it's important."

Jin in CT was a psychopath when it came to Ragna, but when it came to his interactions with characters like Noel or even just his general subordinates, it was the exact same. The only exception is with Tsubaki, which we got to see how he handled in CS anyway, so that's a completely fucking mute point. The Duodecim barely did anything, hell the only fucking thing that even came close to mattering concerning them turned out to just be Mai's daddy trying to teach him a lesson. Ragna's mission turned out to be a complete and utter dud and didn't show off anything at all how they were handled either, stop fucking lying.

The Legacy Weapons were shown and their abilities were explanied, and their resemblance was pretty fucking obvious from the moment go given their abilities and names. Pointing that out doesn't account for jack point shit. CF literally had an entire expository dialogue concerning the creation of Platinum, your equivalence there is bullshit.

Relius and Clavis are definitely important, and Valkenhayn still holds the status as one of the Six Heroes, which is infinitely more relevant than anything else in Remix Heart. It ties into the Phase books as well because of it, where Valkenhayn holds a larger presence. His actions in the primary games are minor, but that's still completely disregarding Relius, whose presence is the cause of everything wrong that's ever happened, and Clavis who orchestrated many of the things that led up to CT.

I decide on a playstyle I want in fighting games and go for that. I try to look for a similar playstyle in other fighting games I play. I like Dizzy because she's a fast zoner. I also like Nu in Blazblue and Yukiko in Persona.

I normally play around the whole roster for a while and gravitate to one character as I play more.
If I really like a character's design/gimmick, then I just grind that character until I can be competent with them
Only time the above didn't work was Sin in GG
