Really loved the shit they pulled in The End as a kid
Also always loved watching Mario/Kong game endings because they'd list all enemies by name and there were always at least 2-3 that I never ever encountered even after dozens of playthroughs

I'm not sure I know anything about the contract they had with Nintendo. I mean I recall Nintendo being pretty controlling in them, even to this day. But like, assets and gameplay, I would think that the actual code and models would belong to both companies, or Rare only. Not that DK and the others aren't full-on Nintendo properties (after the fact at least).
Yeah DKC1 is definitely my favorite of the DK platformers. I feel like it focuses more on the barebones platforming/challenge aspects more than any other game in the series (which more focus on level specific gimmicks)
