So they released the uDraw Tablet for Wii with a few kid-centric licensed games. Basically it let you draw shit and acted as the controller. It did much better than expected in total sales, prompting their suits to make PS3 and Xbox 360 versions as well.

Well surprise! They barely sold any on either platform, and it was costly to produce them as they were bundles containing the tablet and a game. They had a ton of unsold units returned to them, were forced to discontinue any franchise that wasn't profitable (basically they were only making Saints Row by the time the writing was on the wall) and were eventually liquidated

I think Sega has been doing pretty great things lately, with porting a lot of games to PC. I think releasing a console will fuck up their momentum. They should just continue to port their 6th, 7th, & 8th gen library to PC, maybe start rereleasing Saturn games (particularly Japan exclusives with new translations), and localize more Japanese stuff in general (Shining fighting game, PSO2, etc). I agree that they should revive more dead IPs. Sega has a fucking massive amount of classic IPs that just lay dormant because all they make is Sonic, Yakuza, Total War, and Football Manager.

Nowadays to produce a viable console you need to build an online infrastructure capable of support millions, you need a store, you need a full on OS, you need digital games as well as physical, the cost of producing a console is so astronomical that any company that can afford it is bound to be anti-consumer by your definition. Video games are also so much more expensive to make.

We're is partnering with Sega and Atari to launch branded Steam Machines. There are other brands being considered, some I'm pushing pretty hard for because they're really awesome if you like classic computing.

They're going to be pretty goddamn cool, and I think everyone here will be thinking that too when they know more.
