I've seen a few tanks handle it, but usually I do end up taking aggro for a moment. Two spells and two OGCds in one GCD makes for a lot of hate and with no pre-emptive aggro management the best you can do is pop Lucid Dreaming after all is said and done. Even when I try to stagger my OGCDs I often end up pulling hate.

As a DRK the only issue I've had with Red Mages so far is that each time I've run a dungeon with one so far they always go hog wild on a different primary target. I'm focusing my single target on an enemy, the other DPS is attacking the same one and so is the healer while I see a bunch of elemental stuff along with some swords being thrown at one that I've primarily hit with AoE abilities.

It's only been a few times I've tanked for a Red Mage but that has been consistent so far.

It's not infinite. You drop it when AF/UI drops, and I've seen people get greedy and lose it during F3/B3.

The old Enochian is way more forgiving because even if you dropped AF/UI, you can dirtily build back UI with B1 and go straight for B4. The old Enochian timer is MASSIVE, not 13 seconds.

Infinite Enochian is the chemo for a mechanic that doesn't work with every other mechanic in the game. Simple as that. Don't pull the "talent" card because I have 100% upkeep on it and it feels like child's play. I wish that split instances were handled by detecting how many players were on the map and making a new instance whenever there gets to be more than however many the server can reliably handle (I'm guessing 500-ish, given that 350 or so was fine). If all 200 or so players were on the same map, it would make FATEs easier for everybody. I get the feeling that teleporting in also sends you to the map with the lowest population, ensuring that players would need to inconvenience themselves by leaving and going back in if they wanted to combat this.

Seriously? This class feels nothing like what a Summoner should be. I feel like they could have made something pretty creative that actually fits the Summoner vibe, which the current job does not. Maybe something like a few damage/healing spells sure, but then you get stuff that focuses on Summoning different espers or egis or whatever and then buffing the crap out of them. Or maybe something like summons that are just reskinned big spells or something I don't know. There's a lot you could do with the job that fits the Summoner thematically, and I feel like the route they went does not fit it at all.

Really bugs me, it's what's keeping me from maining the class. It's fun, sure, but it doesn't feel like a summoner and if I wanted to play a warlock I'd go play WoW where it's done much better.

Once you get a tank stance it gets easier than before level 30. To hold aggro all you do is use your aoe, cycle your 1-2-3 combo between targets, and pop your cooldowns when it feels correct.

The challenge is in optimising your rotations so you can finish content a bit faster but ultimately it ends up being a pretty big bore.

I guess knowing mechanics for some fights is another challenge (OT moving adds in Garuda Ex as an early game example) but it's nothing that can't be googled beforehand. Arguably, all the others roles should be doing that googling too for non trivial content.

Tanking isn't necessarily hard but people expect you more than any other role to know the encounter before hand and guide them through the dungeon. Having the sprout icon and just saying "first time here" will usually avoid any uncomfortable situations off the bat and since Tanks/Healers are really in demand now because everyone rerolled DPS I doubt anyone would kick you or really raise a fuss over explaining something.

As far as DPS that everyone loves seeing I guess it'd be a Bard? They are the only support DPS.

It lets you try any class out at level 60(used to be the max, but with the new expansion it's now 70).

Just finished the MSQ and the two Endgame dungeons out so far and... SMN feels really weird. It almost feels like SMN's now even harder to play rather than easier, funny given Yoshida's goals of reducing overall class difficulty in DPS upkeep. I can't even begin to imagine how to work around the neutered AOE.

I think one of the worst things is the potency nerf to Ruin III. Having to proc Ruin IV off 15% chance to get your old 200 pot feels like shit. Your DPS literally hinges on proccing Ruin IVs given Enkindle's uptime also works off it now. Bahamut's cool and I love it, but it feels like a mess just trying to hit as many OGCDs within its 20sec CD to get those Wyrmwaves off.
