First off, this, because the game is otherwise a completely broken piece of shit and only this patch makes it mostly stable.
Second off, it's a fun game to run around in and explore and enjoy the atmosphere. But story and combat aren't particularly great.
It's worth a shot, I'd say.

Oh and forget the "Add-On". It was thrown together by a bunch of underpayed Indians in like a weak after the actual developers ran away after the launch disaster that this game turned out to be.

Didn't age well tbhfam. Play Risen 1 instead (But don't ever touch Risen 2 or 3, they're tumors on the world of entertainment)

I will get a lot shit for saying this, but I think gothic 3 is the best gothic. I played all 3 and they were just not for me. I don't want to start a debate. Just saying my preference.
