I can't say I liked it when I was a kid either. Rather than increase immersion, it decreases because I start thinking "damn it would be stupid if they put rumble he- *WRRRRRR* fug".

Loved it when I used the gigantic fucking rumble pad on my 64 controller and the first ps2 controller I got with the feature
I would even intentionally get hit just so I could feel it rumble
Fast forward a few years
I started hating around the time I started playing Gears of Wars on the 360
Now the first thing I do on any game is turn that shit off
Steam allowing me to turn it off across all games is fucking godsend

Meh rumble is kinda overrated. In a game like GTA I guess it's fine but I usually turn it off in any competitive setting.

I go so use to it I never considered turning it off i'm so used to it. It's useful if you paused a game to flip over to TV and accidently unpaused your game setting the controller down and hear it vibrate as you're getting attacked
