Non-euclidean Mario
what is non-euclidian about this
Woah, my brain
>>381183982
mario is being represented on a 2d plane which is warped in the form of a cylinder
>>381184065
so he's on a ledge
this is not non-euclidean
>>381184250
what? cylinders are non euclidean, you can go straight on the 2d plane and end up on the starting point
this game looks so brilliant. this is gonna be one of those world-changing marios like 64
>>381184305
>running around a round object means you're breaking the laws of physics
no
>>381184414
you don't know what no euclidean means
>>381184370
Millions of people are already super excited. I honestly think it'll sell Switches.
>>381184463
this
>>381184463
I do
He's running around a pillar, this is not non-euclidean
>>381184630
im getting a switch mostly just for this game. i have no doubt that this will be one of the best selling games on the system too.
>>381184463
non Euclidian means that it breaks some of Euclid's axioms, like the one about parallel line never crossing
this is all perfectly within
>>381184910
well the parallel line (the line itself) crosses as it can pass through itself by wrapping around
>>381183421
tfw
>>381183421
ost posting WHEN
>>381185029
a line projected on cylinder surface is not a line but a enclosed circle hanging in 3d space
euclid talks about 2 parallel lines with infinite length that never cross
>>381184463
>average nintendie intelligence
HAHAHAHAHA
>>381185108
I'm just a stupid man looking to create baseless arguments about things I barely know about so here you go
>>381185251
but think about it in a 2D coordinate spcae
>>381185370
>a portal except it literally exits where you entered like a fucking hoola hoop
you have proven nothing
Mathfags, I have assignment in mathematic systems simulation , how can I into this shit.
>>381185251
it's too late at night to be explaining this but that's called a geodesic and it's used to determine whether something is non euclidean or not, cylinders aren't
>>381185510
yeah but from marios perspective he's not in a hoop but a flat plane idk
>>381184463
I've chugged through a lot of horror fiction that used non-euclidean as a euphemism for supernatural.
>>381185453
it's a 3d game bucko
fuck outta here with your 2d space
>>381185691
mario became 2d though, that's gotta count for something man
>>381185676
from mario's perspective he's running around a fucking cylinder
now say you're sorry and promise to limit yourself to the vocabulary you're familiar with next time you post
>>381185835
that would mean that he couldn't see in front of himself, you are wrong man he is definitely seeing forward so he must be seeing like he is on a flat plane except he is seeing behind himself, you feel me?
Cylinders aren't Euclidean, but most people associate non Euclidean to an Escher drawing or something.
>>381184910
Depends on the interpretation. The first postulate is often taken to mean for any two points there is one (unique) line that passes between them, but on a cylinder there are infinitely many lines that can pass between those two points.
>>381183421
More like non-original Mario, AmIRite, AMIRITE?!?
lmgtfy./are cylinders euclidean
you rtardz
>implying this is the first use of non-euclidian geometry in a video game
https://youtu.be/rJXM4EPbPe0?t=31m38s
The circular cylinder is locally isometric to a plane.
yes hello you called for me??????????
>>381186123
what?
>>381186113
>those effects were SO POWERFUL the fucking Gameboy Advance couldn't do them.
>>381183421
Is it me, or does this game have a lot of meme potential?
>>381183421
Wow so non Euclidean. Almost like you're ascending a tower or something.
>>381186634
BUT MARIO IS 2D
Mario becomes human
>>381187413
But he is human?
>>381188787
he's italian
>>381188787
he's non-euclidean
>>381185835
Mario has a perspective similar to Flatland. When he's 2D he sees different colored lines expanding and compressing. The player is the only one who can see the two-dimensional plane Mario is adventuring within. So I can imagine Mario is constantly under existential duress when he transitions from 3D to 2D, and vice versa. What a fucking insane existence that must be.
So according to the definitions you guys are giving non-euclidian geometry is anything three dimensional, then? All parallel lines will meet on anything spherical. So why not just fucking call it three-dimensional?
>>381186019
the 'platform around a circular structure' bit has been used by literally billions of games, anon
fuck even the lego star wars games did that shit
>>381190423
no but in this context mario is 2D so from that perspective
>>381183421
So you can take a rolling pin, carve into it a Mario level along the full rotation and it's a non-Euclidean item?
post games that are actually non-euclidean
>>381190936
>>381185676
>Paper Mario is now a crazy new concept
You're a retard.
>>381191176
but mario was a piece of 3D paper in that one
>>381183421
>most ambitious mario game yet
>has less than a year of development
i think they should delay this game.
>>381191462
no wonder why it looks like garbage
>>381191462
>has less than a year of development
you dont know that
>>381191462
>has less than a year of development
>>381190936
Telerporter goin' up
>>381185108
replace the blue and red by green pipes and it's mario
>>381183421
This looks neat as a minigame
>>381191462
>has less than a year of development
>>381191462
Pretty sure they've been going since Super Mario 3D World which is 4 years old.
>>381194068
the music turns into a chiptune remix of the current song that's playing when you go into 2D mode
>>381190645
What does Mario's perspective matter
>>381191462
>>has less than a year of development
>>381195278
>chiptune
>>381196394
Yeah? 8bit refers to the system's processor, not what is rendering the music. Super Mario Bros. 1 is 8bit, but the music comes from the 2A03 chip.
>>381183421
Based on what I've seen, the way Mario controls looks like a downgrade from how he did in Sunshine.
Genuine concern or have I just not seen the right videos?
>>381196490
Who the fuck calls non-tracker music chiptunes
>>381196584
He can do a spin jump (the one from sunshine) and do a dive out of them, or a hat throw. You can scale a wall by wallkicking -> hat throw etc.
Seems to be quite some freedom.
>>381196658
Who the fuck says this wasn't tracked? How do you know how Nintendo produces their music.
>>381196739
Is there a backflip like in Mario 64?
>>381196810
Yeah. Long jump and walking down slopes gives you extra speed for a sec. So does rolling. You can dive out of a roll.
>>381183421
>hahahaha le epic pixel mario so nostalgic am I right, never mind the fact that 95% of the players have never even played a NES
When did Nintendo start this endless 8-bit Mario circlejerking? And it's always a discolored mario from SMB1, not even the best one on the console.
>>381196939
>never mind the fact that 95% of the players have never even played a NES
SMB1 released on the Wii, Wii U, 3DS and GBA. Nevermind nods to that Mario in numerous other nintendo games. Can you not be an elitist fuck for literally 45 seconds?
t. Someone whose first console was an NES
>>381196939
It's an interesting visual gimmick for sections that are explicity 2d, I really like the fact that it gives you a mural on the wall that you can observe before entering the segment, and for that alone I think it's worth it.
>>381183982
Nigga you serious.
>>381191462
Where the fuck did you get that from? They already said they've been working on it since 3D World.
>>381191462
If Metroid Samus Return has at least 2 years of dev, imagine this game
>>381186123
go to bed anon

Fuck, I like playing Antichamber, but I get a headache every time I play it, even with the lights on. Feels bad man.
